(R) Sen. Ted Stevens throws wife under bus.
Yesterday there were new and troubling revelations from the Senator Ted Stevens trial. It seems that Ted is blaming his wife, Catherine, for improperly handling the family home renovations back in Girdwood, Alaska. In addition to being the wife of the longest serving Republican in the Senate she is a high powered lawyer in Washington, DC in her own right. http://womensissues.about.com/b/2008/10/18/alaska-senator-ted-stevens-blames-wife-for-accepting-gifts.htm
It seems that our tax dollars that are supposed to be paying for the senator’s staff to conduct senate business are being used by Catherine to pay for her personal concierge service.
This morning’s Anchorage Daily News published an op-ed by local writer Elise Patotak. http://www.adn.com/opinion/story/563461.html Elise hits this one out of the park!

1. Damn. For a guy as old and wretched as Ted is ...
... you'd think he'd leave his wife out of his mess.

I guess when you know you're going to prison, you know you won't be needing the old wife any more.

4. Isn't that how Mussolini and Ceaucescu went down?
Seems like Sen. Ted is following a fine global political tradition of tossing his wife to the angry mob in hopes of buying a pardon. Let's all watch and see how it works out this time. The last couple of times? Not so good.

when his first wife was dying. also, she is a ... a mournful looking woman who deserves what she gets.

9. She's just as guilty
as he is. She's been using his staff to run errands for her:
Quote from Elise Patkotak editorial today:

"But apparently if you are the wife of a powerful senator, you get his aides as your personal errand people so that you never have to dirty your fingertips by punching in your PIN or picking up your dogs poop.

Its not that I don't think the wife of a powerful senator doesn't deserve to have the services of all the aides she can afford. Heck, I don't particularly care if she hires an aide willing to loofah her back in the shower. Her money, her choice. But I do find myself drawing the line at the idea that someone being paid for by my tax dollars to assist my senator in his responsibilities to my country and state is acting as a personal servant for his wife."
