What does a black eye look like? Let's investigate:
This is a real black eye





This is an eye that has some black smudged around it




This is a black eye




This is what I my eyes look like in the morning when I fall asleep with mascara on




This is what someone looks like when an attacker slashes their face




This is what someone looks like when they carefully carve a letter in their skin with the tip of a pair of scissors so that a mark will show up but, you know, not leave a scar or anything.



Is pretending to be attacked by an African-American mugger to prevent the election of a Black candidate a hate crime? Or is it tampering with elections? Or both?

25. Betcha anything your image will appear as the 'real image' ...
without the <cronus.com> label and the headline.

Hope your impressive technical skills (Photoshop, right?) includes some way of monitoring the use of your photograph.

Please let us know about people who use your pic as the real thing. There's a lot at stake.

This is not a reflection on Obama whether true or not. Just because this happens to involve politics doesn't mean we need to belittle a woman's claim; I know most of us at DU are better than that, and we wouldn't jump to such a quick conclusion in other circumstances. This matter is still being investigated; let's let the investigators do their work, shady story or not.

Just because someone reports a crime, that doesn't make them a victim. Once there is a sufficient information to cause a reasonable person to doubt their story, it's time to do so.

I'm sure you were comforted by the prosecution of the innocent Duke Lacrosse players, and that really worked out, didn't it?

36. Well yes but I don't think that's news...
that she was a McCain supporter and she thought that's why she was victimized? That's kind of the essence of the story I thought. I'm not at all verifying her story. It's shady as hell. But it's a slippery slope to surround and attack female victims of violence just because this particular story has a political slant, a slope that DU'ers would be smart to avoid I think; we're classier than that. It's something I would TOTALLY expect over at Freeperville.

30. A pin-prick in or just under your eye-lid can cause blood to collegiate....
...and blacken the area under your eye. Basically, it's a black eye without the swelling caused by trauma.

I made the mistake of popping a sty on my eyelid once. The result was a black-eye exactly like her's---black with zero swelling.

Now, I'm not blaming her if she didn't struggle because I would be terrified too if I was under attack, but why would an attacker care to be so meticulous about connecting the lines?

34. I have had two black eyes in my life.
One was after a rather intense visit to the dentist. The area under my eye was blue and green, and there was no swelling.

The second was administered by a toilet seat gone wild (don't ask). Plenty of bruising under the eye with some swelling. Also the white of the eye was pretty much solid red.

Did a goofy thing as a teen "in love" and attempted to carve initials on my arm. What is still visible 42 years later is slightly less discolored than Ashley's fresh "mutilation".
