Super sad freeper post: Need some help from my FReeper brethren to defend Joe the Plumber
Edited on Thu Oct-23-08 10:06 PM by Fuzz
I am having an argument with a liberal black man on YouTube over whether or not Joe the Plumber really represents the Conservative cause as much as we want to believe. This is the gentleman's most recent post, which I am hoping for some rebuttal "ammo" to take back to the argument. :-)

"Joe the Plumber admitted on Fox News on Monday (Hannity & Colmes) that he was on welfare and on another show he spoke about other social programs. He also said that he does not know that much about "socialism".

You do not know what I am talking about. Joe the Plumber is the wrong poster guy for what conservative are trying argue because he has no problem with social programs like welfare where the government taxes my father to give to ummm...Joe the "plumber".

I am not aware of this man's claims, so if any of you have any info on this to assist, please enlighten me...:-) Thanks in advance...:-)

Joe Plumber represents the average working guy, who just wants to get ahead of the bills. He is the common man, makes 50K a year, and wants to quit working for a plumbing contractor and have his own plumbing business.

On that interview Joe said he does believe in a hand up not a hand out. Yes his family was on welfare for awhile but he said it was temporary and he does not believe it should be a life style. JUST TEMPORARY. He believes that too many people use it as a way of life and that he does not believe in.

I admit to having had to use food stamps and such a few times in my life. I never have a problem with it as a temporary fix.

Joe the plumber does not matter whatsoever . I don't care if Joe was a plant , a fraud or a straight up commie . It was the question and more specifically Obama’s answer that is relevant . Obama wants to take from one who earned it and give to one who did not .

1. Its confusing...
I got into a discussion with someone over this on a blog for a local newspaper. I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong but here are my views on it.

I think Barrack Obama missed a chance with this guy Joe when discussing the 250K and under being taxed. It was my impression when reading Obama's tax plan that it was 250K and under that would see taxes lowered or staying the same. Seems easy enough right?

Well.. here is a copy of Obama's tax plan below...

Middle class families will see their taxes cut – and no family making less than $250,000 will see their taxes increase. The typical middle class family will receive well over $1,000 in tax relief under the Obama plan, and will pay tax rates that are 20% lower than they faced under President Reagan. According to the Tax Policy Center, the Obama plan provides three times as much tax relief for middle class families as the McCain plan.

........................

Now, it is not spelled out very well I have to say but I believe we need to clarify.. are we are talking taxable income here?

Because in a case of a business you have revenue - expenses = net revenue(or otherwise known as taxable income). Even when you own a business you still pay yourself a salary that you report at the end of the year. Having worked in the payroll industry for a number of years, the only people I see making 250K plus are doctors, dentists, CEOs.. lawyers and those sorts of positions. I have a hard time believing a plumbing business (unless you are talking major business such a roto-rooter) will have an owner who has a net revenue of 250K.

Some businesses have a larger overhead and might have a significantly larger revenue then maybe someone in the service industry.. and are deducting a large amount of expenses be it salaries or even building supplies. See where I am going with this? So when pressing this point with someone we have to be clear that we have the same starting point. In this case I really believe we are talking taxable income.

So it only makes sense we are talking taxable income or sometimes known as net revenue.

2. Oh..
in regards to Joe the poster child.. I think he represents the angry lying white man pretty well. So yes, perfect example of swinging right.
