how will Democratic Underground be different if we actually win this thing?
To me, anyway, Democratic Underground has always been largely about venting and yelling and screaming about the outrageous crimes and abuses of the Bush administration.

If we actually see Senator Obama elected and sworn in as president, along with fortified majorities in the House and Senate, how will this web community be changed?

I recall that this website was founded in response to an illegitimately seated administration. Will DU become a different kind of place if we witness the seating of a New American President that actually has the best interests of our citizens at heart?

I guess this is almost more of a philosophical question than anything else. It's just something I was thinking about.

26. I was thinking about that this morning.
I am sure KO will keep going after the republicans, but he will surely have to retool his show.

sort of vibe.

6. We will become part of the conscience of the Democratic Party.
We don't just criticize Republicans because they're Republicans. We criticize them because they're *wrong*.

On occasion, Democrats can be wrong too. But we will be here to call them on it, and provide some accountability.

I also think we'll move more toward issue-based advocacy and debate, rather than focusing so much on parties. This is a good thing, I think. There are a lot of important issues that get buried because we have "bigger fish to fry" with trying to win elections. Once we win, I fully expect that DU will turn its attention to issues--like gay marriage--that are often neglected for the sake of electability.

9. There will still be Republicans to bash and of course
I'm sure Obama will get his share.
It will start with his cabinet picks. They won't be suitable to many I predict.
Later, we aren't out of Iraq fast enough. Oh, and of course Congress will get it's share too.
Hopefully the rule about calling for the defeat of Democrats will still be in place.

23. I would tend to agree
At first a euphoria over anticipation of the Democratic social dream about to be realized. Then the letdown of reality. What Congress gives, will probably not be what we want. What President Obama does is not necissarly what we want.

keeping them honest and doing the right thing.

Remember Obama voted for FISA and the Wall Street bailout bill. We will have to remind him who volunteered and fought for him. We will have to remind them ALL that We the People are in charge.

16. There will be plenty of arguing about whether Obama is betraying the Dems
who voted for him by moving closer to the middle; and between those who want immediate gratification of every progressive dream (particularly if we have a filibuster-proof majority) and those who already have their attention focused on his getting reelected in 2012.

18. This victory will merely represent a minor setback in the eyes of fascists
They're not going anywhere, after all, and some of them will hang onto elected office. Like rust, fascists never sleep, so they most definitely bear watching - constantly! Can you think of a better place to compile data on them than DU?

I want a president who knows where I live

I have been to the White House

Turnabout is fair play

I want a president who has driven a truck for a living

I want a president with splinters in his fingers, calluses on his hands and blisters on his feet

I want a president who has lived in a mobile home

I want a president who has been divorced at least once, and has paid child support, and/or missed a payment and spent a night in jail

I want the president who rigged the elections in 2000 and 2004 to go to prison

I want a president who has been homeless

I want a president who has been to a rock show and can’t remember a majority of it

I want a president who has had a DUI

I want a president who smokes too much

I want a president with AIDS

I want a president who has been in a mental institution

I want a president who knows where I live

25. The FISA brothers will give us plenty to do.
Edited on Fri Oct-24-08 07:13 AM by fla nocount
There's more than a few congressional incumbents that need to be removed in the primaries. If we have to suffer them another term, they need to be removed from policy making positions. A couple of majority leaders come to mind.

We can comment on the the Dem.s annual congressional production of "The Flight of the Pink Tutu's." We can spearhead investigations into the crimes of the last 8 years. We have plenty to do.

28. I think we'll see more internecine conflict
Some will want to go this way while will want to go that way.

The ranting against the right will continue because you KNOW they won't be calming down any, but the internecine fighting could get worse than during the primaries.

30. Hope we don't do like FR and blame the other party for any failures
Once we purge the repubs of any control, we own the ship, and blaming the other party is
not only wrong but it is the same whining we have laughed at them for eight years now.

32. The other side of the coin...
Limballs and the other rightwingnuts will have a Full Employment Plan for the duration.

While Jon and KO will have to scramble for material, the freepoids will need their daily fix of hate more than ever.

On DU, we'll probably act like Dems have always acted... we'll go at each other with meat-axes over the finer points of issues. Better that than marching lockstep into the void like the Repubs.
