New Poll: Bachmann Fighting For Political Life

The first independent poll is out in Minnesota's Sixth District, which has been put into contention thanks to Rep. Michele Bachmann's (R-MN) McCartheyesque rant on Hardball last week -- and it shows a race that could be tightly contested all the way to Election Day.

The new numbers from SurveyUSA: Democratic candidate El Tinklenberg 47%, Bachmann 44%, and Independence Party candidate Bob Anderson 6%, with a ±4% margin of error.

Bachmann could still win this thing, as the district voted 57%-42% for George W. Bush in 2004. But the race has really been upended. After Bachmann's remarks on national television, and then her ham-fisted attempts to deny she ever said them, Tinklenberg has raised $1.45 million from donors across the country -- and the DCCC committed $1 million on top of that. And the NRCC has pulled their ad reservations, leaving Bachmann to fight this one out on her own.

Meanwhile, the Family Research Council's PAC put out a statement condemning the NRCC for pulling out of this race and that of Rep. Marilyn Musgrave (R-CO), another champion of the Christian Right: "It appears that the NRCC is abandoning social conservative candidates and the issues for which they stand, particularly if they are championed by some of the most promising female legislators in the Congress. This is no time to cut and run from a fight."

I wonder if the GOP has started to realize that caving to the Religious (Fundie) Right has negativly impacted their chance of winning elections and is starting to drift back towards the center.

They were useful for awhile, but I cn't imagine ANYONE in their right mind gloating over the prospect of a Palin presidency.

My guess is that it scares them every bit as much as it does the rest of us and our allies throughout the world.

Looks like we have this year's macaca moment. And the winner is Michele Bachmann. Don't fret too much for her, though. Surely she'll land a consulting gig with Fox or MSNBC, or become a regular on Morning Joke.

That ugly dog with the huge earbobs, Virginia Foxx, who only a couple of years ago ran the infamously "nastiest campaign in the US" against an even more crazed Vernon Robinson has also jumped on the McCarthy Train. A couple of years ago, the only choice was the only-slightly-less-crazy of two extreme right-wing nutcases. This time, NC-05 is much more fortunate to have a Progressive Democrat, Roy Carter, running against her.

I hope folks will call Foxx out the way they've called out Bachmann for the same RW tactics. We've all had enough of being called "unAmerican" or "anti-American" for simply speaking up against RW kookiness, greed, racism, and rubberstamping agenda.

El is an amazing person. He so deserves to win. Not just b/c Bachmann is horrible, but he has had an amazing life and would do a great job.

The reason she is going down in flames is because she accused Americans of being Anti-American. WTF? There's a "good" side and a "bad" side in that "fight"?
