My car broke down (again) and I had to leave it overnight in two different places. One was in the parking lot of an Episcopalian Church where I go to community chorus. I also had to leave it overnight at the mechanic's. I can fix a computer, but I know nothing about cars. The bill was $1000...a huge amount for someone living on disability. It crossed my mind that the mechanic might have overcharged me because of the fish symbol, but I doubt it.

I only noticed today that the fish was missing and it pissed me off. This is the second time my car has been vandalized. Last time was about two weeks before the presidential election in 2004. Radical Christians certainly get their panties in a bunch during election seasons. Last time it was my Kerry for President sticker that got ripped off. Whoever stole that got an eyeful because I put "Thou shalt not steal" on the back of the sticker. :)

In a related story, I voted via absentee ballot today for Barack Obama.

In all fairness, the fish stayed on my car longer than I expected it to: a few years. Of course, it mysteriously disappeared as soon as I parked it in a new locale.

If it washes up on the Tiburon shore, I will send it to you.

If not, I will buy another one for you.

Damn those car repairs.

If you live in a rural area, you gotta have a car. I think everything will work out OK, although I'll owe my mother and I'm a little worried about buried resentment. I am the only atheist / progressive in my family. That's a helluva long story. I'm trying really hard to make peace with it, but as many of you know from your own experiences, it isn't easy.

I would really like to move, but due to health and financial reasons, I can't. Yet.

Sometimes I wonder what it was like just before the Civil War. Families were split apart then, too, over philosophical differences. Granted, some of those philosophical differences made life hell for an entire race of people...ironic that a representative of that race is poised to be our new president.

Mr. Obama says he wants to unite rather than divide. Boy, is his work cut out for him! Still, when he speaks of uniting America, it's one of the most important things to me. Nothing hurts quite so much as feeling estranged from family and being all alone in one's beliefs. :(

The other side are a bunch of cowards. I will speak my peace among anyone and rarely, if ever, back down, but I have kids and it just is not worth it.

The other side hide in the shadows and never engage a fair fight.

When I saw the subject of the post, I thought I'd post that you could put "Thou shalt not steal" on the back of the sticker. But you were a step ahead of me. Maybe on the next one, you could put Ex. 20:15. Might actually cause the "righteous" thief to blow the dust off his Bible and read it for a change.
