I tend not to back down when challenged. When red meat is waved in front of me, I snap at it. When I grab hold, I tend not to let go of it.

I suck at chess.

The Diplomatic Service would be in far worse shape were I a member.

I'm not subtle.

While not stupid, I tend more toward instinctual action than intellectual strategy.

I have strong opinions. I piss a lot of people off and mostly don't give a shit.

I m everything Barack Obama is not. But more importantly, for me, he is everything I am not.

Barack Obama has run the most masterful, flawless campaign I can ever remember.

One point that I consider a highlight .......

It was suggested that he just wasn't black enough. It appeared these questions were coming from the black community. But no, they were coming from those who wanted him to respond. Hopefully with indignation they could cast as anger. Instead he ignored the issue, slapped subtly at it, and moved on. He won. They lost.

Were I he, I would have been snarling and seething. In fact, at the time, I **was** snarling and seething.

And for lots of other attacks during this campaign, I **was** snarling and seething and ready to fight. And hoping he would fight.

But he was smarter.

That's why he's about to make history and I am here on a computer message board, posting about my admiration for him.

They say he is inexperienced and untested. But his campaign has, for 22 very intense months, shown the genius that is his judgment, the calm that is his temperament, and the fiscal discipline to beat at their own game the monied elite.

Yeah, I'm cheerleading.

Because I am impressed.

He is a remarkable man and will make a great American president.

2. You wouldn't be a good president. Neither would I. Lucky we have Barack.
My penchant for sarcasm would come out at the wrong time (which is probably all the time.)

Barack has the self discipline to do the job for us. I too, am mightily impressed. As is often the case Stinky, you've expressed my thoughts.

4. I like your posts.
I'm not a junk yard dog, but I can appreciate them.
I was not for Obama at first, and for a long time I felt ambivalent towards him.
He has clearly proven himself, to me at least, to be the most talented politician to come along during my adult life, and to be a good human being worthy of my trust and respect.

Barring the unforeseen, I believe he will be one the 5-10 greatest presidents. I know that's a lot of pressure to put on the guy, but he doesn't seem to have a problem with pressures much greater than simple high expectations.

7. I carried that same ambivalence toward him for a long time.
My "candidate" never even entered the primaries, so I never had a horse in the race.

I favored Dodd for a while. I alternately favored Biden and Richardson ...... felt sympathy toward Clinton just because she was getting hit hard from all quarters, but never really favored her. Without having a real favorite in the race, I was free to just observe.

I didn't back Obama until shortly after Ted Kennedy got sick. I posted on it at the time. Some remarks by Ted Sorenson in an obscure telephone interview about Teddy flipped the switch on my internal light bulb. That's when I got on board with Obama.

6. This campaign has shown the best and worst of the American political system
Barack has shown the best -- with his vision, his calm, his organization, and his respect for the people.

McCain/Palin have shown the worst -- smear politics, dirty tricks, violence, racism, lies -- the whole "Kitchen sink" or gutter politics.

The fact that the polls are as close as they are speaks very poorly for the American people. Very sad.

8. I don't trust the polls and neither should you....
They are being manipulated to make people think it is closer than it is.

If you look at the turnout of early election the numbers are astounding....they don't jive with the poll numbers.

We will have to keep fighting to get everyone who is registered to the polls...

10. I don't disagree with you, but
given the current situation and the performance of the campaigns, the polls should be about 85-15 in Obama's favor.

9. K & R
I wholeheartedly agree. I tend to be very heavy-handed, and quick-tempered. I do not back down and will throw a friendship to the wolves if that person says something offensive/ignorant.

They way he has handled himself is stunning, I could not do it, and it makes me think he has the temperament needed for diplomacy and all stressful situations he may face as Commander-in-Chief.

12. Obama is a cool cat, but, like a cat, he won't take shit from anyone,
especially later/soon when he is sitting on high.

14. Well said.
My brother and I were just talking last night about the same thing....how we kept getting mad because Sen. Obama wasn't responding to attacks with attacks of his own. And every time he turned out to be right.

I'm learning to trust the Obama campaign's judgement on these things instead of my gut. I gave up on my turn-the-other-cheek philosophy about 17 years ago, so it's hard for me to recognize situations where turning the other cheek is the right thing to do. Like the OP, it's fortunate for everyone that I'm not in the diplomatic corps...lol.

Excellent post, Husb2Sparkly.
