Remembering Paul Wellstone...
Politics is not about power. Politics is not about money. Politics is not about winning for the sake of winning. Politics is about the improvement of people's lives. It's about advancing the cause of peace and justice in our country and the world. Politics is about doing well for the people.

Paul David Wellstone
July 21, 1944 – October 25, 2002

5. I cried for a week.
I sat shiva for him.

One can only imagine the things he would have said over the past 6 years.

Barack Obama reminds me of him. They shared a vision for America.

Read his book "The Conscience of a Liberal." It is a wonderful and moving book.

17. My staunch Republican MIL cried when Wellstone died.
She never voted for him, but she mourned his passing.

He was a very special man.

7. I don't like to think of him too often
I miss him fiercely. I still want to break Republican heads for turning his memorial into a political firestorm.

9. I heard about his death from Limpballs...
I was eating an In-and-Out burger behind the shopping mall at El Camino and Grant. I had 2 hours until I had to pick up the kids. We didn't have Green 960 yet, so I switched between KPFA and the local RW whacko station.

I almost threw up my burger.

It was (is) my birthday.

It sucks to have a birthday w/ such a bad memory.

10. Thanks for that! I had quite forgotten about the significance of this date.
For a long time, my Sig-Line was a link to the complete (>4 hr.) Paul Wellstone Memorial Ceremony. Sadly, that seems to be no longer on-line. Does anyone here have a downloadable copy?

Being reminded of his Book, "Conscience Of A Liberal", I first checked Audible.con. It wasn't there yet, but I did find it at: http://www.ereader.com/ I bought it, and it's now in my PDAphone. It isn't as easy to read on that small screen as on a real book, but it's not all that difficult either. AND, the Search function is useful beyond measure.

14. He will Always be My Hero
Edited on Sun Oct-26-08 06:57 AM by Avalon Sparks
I still tear up even tonight. Still hurts so much. There are no words to describe the loss of this incredible man and his wife and daughter. When I heard about it at work that day, my heart broke into a million pieces. I too cried for a week. I live in Texas, but he was MY senator.

My Favorite Picture: (I have it in a frame on my desk)

With his daughter Marcia and his wife, Sheila, Senator-elect Paul Wellstone waved farewell from his bus on a chilly late December morning before heading for Washington, D.C., in 1990.

Thank you for posting.

18. I always wanted to stand outside the WH with Green Wellstone signs just to
haunt those who could have intended his air crash.

Wellstone really cared for people.
He was such a good man.
