The AFL CIO is a major supporter of Democrats. They spend a lot of money to help Democrats get elected.
If it were not for the union, musicians would still be working from tip jars and coins thrown into cups.
The union guarantees a living wage for working musicians. Any 'real' professional musician is in the union. That includes symphony
and armed forces musicians. Jack White has a problem with considering musicians he hires as nothing more than hired help he can use. He makes millions while back up musicians make him look good.

Desperately seeking Jack White . .
Jack White produced Alicia Keys and himself, and recorded a movie theme Another
Way To Die for the James Bond movie Quantum of Solace at Blackbird Studios. So far, he has failed to file a contract with AFM Local 257. Reportedly, he used the Memphis Horns and Nashville’s finest. Those musicians could be fined $50,000
and expelled from the AFM for working for a non-signatory company. Those same musicians will not share in the DVD sales of what undoubtedly will be a huge movie. Please contact President Harold Bradley, Secretary-Treasurer Billy Linneman or
Electronic Media Services Director Melissa Hamby Meyer, if you played on this session, so that we can try to get Jack White (of White Stripes) to sign the film agreement. Editor’s note: Quantum of Solace, the 22nd James Bond movie, stars Daniel Craig as Bond. It’s scheduled to hit U.S. theaters on Friday, Nov. 7. A music video of the song, which White wrote, is now in rotation, and the Quantam of Solace movie soundtrack goes on sale Oct. 28.
Jack White did the same thing with the 'Vanlear Rose' CD he produced for Loretta Lynn.
