SNL for adults - spoilers for West Coast
I really enjoyed this one, as opposed to the one from last week which I found juvenile.

OK, the opening skit was a bit hard to watch but, hey, they are not supposed to only skewer the other side.

As a Mad Men watcher, it was nice to see John Hamm and was even nice to have two of his co-actors appearing in the skit.

I was hoping the Coldplay would play Fix You

But, I suppose, one has to take what is offered.

About the Halloween skit from the 50s, I was wondering how many viewers have even heard of Vincent Price, Liberace, James Mason or Gloria Swanson.

2. Gloria Swanson was famous for the classic "Sunset Bouleverd"
"Ready for my Close-up Mister DeMille."

A biting drama about Hollywood - of the 50s, mind you. Worth renting.

James Mason had a long career, his most famous are Hitchcock's "North by Northwest" and "Lolita."

3. Mason was in the original "Lolita"
Mason was an excellent actor. Hamm's impression was impeccable. (Trivia note: his son is Go-Go Belinda Carlisle's husband.)

Gloria Swanson was a glamour-puss from the 40s and 50s. Actually she was quite intelligent and bohemian. She popularized yoga in Hollywood.

Every year since since Bill Hader debuted on SNL, they've done a retro Vincent Price Halloween Special. They have all been incredibly funny -- even though all follow the same basic format.

IMDB has bios on most of these old stars and links to websiden about them. Some of them are pretty interesting.

7. Gloria Swanson was a silent movie star of the 20s
(who made a comeback in "Sunset Boulevard" ) and is also notable as a girlfriend of Joseph P. Kennedy, father of JFK.

9. Indeed Hamm's impersonation was perfect
- as far as I remember. Mason died some 20 years ago and I have not seen him recently.

I wish I remember the name of a movie from the 60s, I think. He played an employee of a German embassy someplace spying for the allies and his code name was Cicero. This is the only fact that I remember. Strange.
