What none of the MSM talking heads are saying:
The obvious.

The REASON that this election is so important to so many people for so long is that people want BUSH OUT. They are heavily invested in surviving to January 20th and what he did, WHAT HE DID, is to destroy the whole movement which Goldwater began and Reagan was the mouthpiece for.

He, Cheney, and the lockstep RWers in Congress utterly and totally decimated the Party and the Ideology in the minds of Americans. The Democrats couldn't have done the job one-tenth as well and there is no doubt that Tom Tomorrow's "This Modern World" wherein he has the ultimate tinfoil hat theory that Bush and Cheney and Rove were placed to destroy this form of RW ideology. You could almost believe that it were true in a movie...but this is real life and much more interesting and complex than any script.

1. I've been thinking
that Fox News could have never existed in the 1920's as it would have been considered one of Felix Dzerzhinsky's clever plots.

2. Isn't that an interesting point...
what a great place "The DU" is..

also, as someone pointed out last night, seems as though almost all the trolls are gone.

3. Inevitable character flaw
of highly vulnerable RW lunacy with highly destructive leadership foxes. Bush dynasty goes back before Nixon. It is a story of useless manipulators leading useful idiots. When a blind man leads the blind the story is much less catastrophic than this convergence of human stupidity and malice as THE epitome of its greed focused triumph of power. Reagan was the closest thing they had to gloss over the rot. Anything better that one could imagine perpetuating the "success" of RW ideology fortunately is so rare as to be repelled or purged by the low lifes that rise naturally to the surface of such blinded illogic. For that the good guys who rarely were up to the challenge in opposing the sheer criminality should thank their undeserving stars.

Of course, the eventual cost of this captivity-which will always slouch back to Bethlehem, may still mean most of our lives.

4. I've been saying all along, they can't/won't admit reaganomics was a failure, they
don't want to say anything about it because it makes their messiah null and void.

5. The talking heads need to talk
That's what they get paid to do. So they are going to say whatever they need to say in order to keep saying things. That's their Prime Directive.

So they will do whatever they need to do to make this into a competitive race. They need -- it's not merely a "want" situation -- to keep viewers viewing or listening or reading, depending on their medium.

As for WHAT they talk/write about, that's another story.

I'll take some issue with you. I don't think the neo-con movement was started by Goldwater. Rather it was started by Powers That Be who saw him as their chosen candidate. Goldwater was no saint but neither was he a neo-con, and certainly not a tool of the wacko religious right. He was also not a puppet. So they found Reagan and he was much more willing to go along, much more malleable and controllable. Goldwater had some (even if not many) scruples, and he wasn't stupid.

Just as there were those who believed Hillary Clinton wanted Obama to lose to McCain so she could run in '12, there is a faction that believes Palin wants McCain to lose so she can run in '12. I'm of the belief that both statements are hooey: In politics, ALL strategy starts with winning. You don't plan a campaign around losing this time in order to run later. It's all about winning all the time.

Palin wants to win NOW because she thinks McCain't isn't going to live very much longer. She's not interested in waiting in the wings for four years. Anyone who thinks that is pretty much in my never humble opinion crazy. For Sarah it's all about winning.

Likewise with boooosh, cheeeeny and rove. They didn't set out to destroy the GOP or the neo-con ideology. They are its chief proponents and beneficiaries. And they have probably established such opulent cushions for themselves that they don't personally care if McCain't . . . . cain't. They have in effect ABANDONED the party to its christofascist base but I'm not even sure that was intentional. I suspect they have mechanisms already in place (to attempt) to regain control of it when they deem the time is right. Just think "Jeb Bush." Maybe they were caught unawares by the various and sundry catastrophes that this administration found itself entangled in and decided they needed to push the clean-up effort onto someone else, perhaps to be sabotaged??? I dunno at this point.

But there are indeed many who are hanging on by their toenails in the hope that 1/20/09 brings relief and a more equitable reversal of fortune. We'll all just have to wait and see what happens.
