If You Are Broken, You Are Worthless
Suddenly, it all makes sense
by Steve Duin
Like many of you, If struggled to understand the squalor awaiting wounded soldiers at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center. I waited in vain for the explanation of how the Department of Defense could conveniently misplace 175,000 casualties of the wars or -- as Salon.com reported Monday -return injured troops to the front lines.

Then Army Spc. David Pope cleared up the confusion. Sitting in a subdued living room in east Portland, Pope spelled it out :

There's this mentality in the military, he said that if you are broken, you are worthless. We're the greatest fighting unit in the entire world, blah ,blah blah. If you're not tough enough to suck it up soldier and on,you have no business being in the military.

1. This sounds like a repeat of Patton chewing out the soldier with PTSD.
Or maybe Patton slapped him? I'm not sure, but it was inexcusable.

12. I have a confession
at one time I was a "DRILL", I don't need to explain that, to those who don't know, and the ones that do don't need any explanation but from the beginning of each cycle of new recruits we tried to instill in them the need to be "men",, like men don't cry, men don't whine, and real men don't go on sick call,,,I wish I could turn back time and change that, but I can't,, so let me tell you right now all of that is pure BULL SHIT, some things even I can't forgive myself nor anyone else should either,,,

13. This has been a military truism for years.
A wounded soldier is a negative. He consumes resources. He is apt to speak out against the GOVERNMENT, questioning our God appointed leaders.

Ah, but when one is dead. He is a hero, he can be eulogized, he can have words like honor, duty, sacrifice, noble blood placed onto his dead lips by grave robbers and fakes.

15. What's worthless are the inveterate, ass kissing narcisistic, powerpoint warriors...
...fucking the system up the ass for their next promotion.

There's a big difference between thinking your the greatest military and being the greatest military in the world.

Based on all the reading on leadership in university and all the reading on the US military... ...most of the top brass/dumbshits has no leadership game. Based on reading Sun Tzu & John Boyd those dumbshits have no moral level, no strategic level, no cheng/chi or no nebenpuntke/schwerpuntk game.

All they've got is pompous windbag/fuck the system up the ass game.

Just like Bush/Cheney & the neocon losers.

17. to BushCo, military personnel are just another category or disposable supplies . . .
and an expensive one at that . . . when a truck or a tank gets blown up, they simply discard it -- and that's what they're also doing with military personnel who become disabled and can no longer contribute to the war effort . . . it's a cruel, inhumane, and un-American way to treat the troops, but those calling the shots haven't the least trace of conscience about it . . . they just don't care . . .

18. Is this more of an Army thing, or true for all the branches?
From everything I read, and from what people tell me, the Marines, for instance, as an organization, treat their own much better than does the Army theirs.

Beat 'em mentally into submission, then they'll believe much that they're told.
