A prayer for election day

God,

I pray that this Tuesday You will deliver the United States a president who will:

* End the war in Iraq with a minimum of suffering
* Allow our citizens to prosper
* Provide health care for our citizens (WADR God prayers to you for health aren't that reliable)
* All the things we've already gone over, but in general through his actions send a message of compassion and tolerance to not only our citizens but those elsewhere around the world

I know it's asking a lot, but here's the thing: I understand You are compassionate and just, and it seems that a compassionate and just God wouldn't elect a president who stands for anything BUT those things, unless He is electing a president to try us, and frankly God that "trying" approach is what five-year-olds do. You are All-Knowing and All-Powerful and everywhere, and I admit I don't know whether You are All-Mature but it would be reasonable to expect someone of Your stature to have the maturity of say, an adult mortal.

And God, again WADR, if You fuck up and put the wrong person in charge I ask that You understand if those who believe in you have their belief shaken and perhaps reject you - much as when I mess up I take the heat and don't go blaming it on You, and those who relied on me reject me. And should You do the right thing I pray You will cut some slack for those of us who really don't believe in You or even believe in another God, because even though You are God and all, it seems like only an extremely tight-ass God would come down hard on someone who has not seen Your light but believes in more or less the same things You do (this kind of relates to being mature again).
