Cape Girardeau woman kills man who returned to rape her second time
An intended rape victim shot and killed her attacker this morning in Cape Girardeau when he broke into her home to rape her a second time, police said.
The 57-year-old woman shot Ronnie W. Preyer, 47, a registered sex offender, in the chest with a shotgun when he broke through her locked basement door.
The woman told police he was the same man who raped her several days earlier. Officials do not intend to seek charges against her.

In the first incident, the woman heard glass breaking in her basement about midnight on Saturday. She went to leave the house, and the man attacked when she opened the front door. He punched her in the face and then forced her into a bedroom, where he raped her, said H. Morley Swingle, prosecuting attorney in Cape Girardeau County.

She was home alone again Friday about 2:15 a.m. when Preyer broke the same basement window. The victim was awake watching television, when Preyer switched off the electricity to her house.

She tried to call 911, but couldn't because the power was off. She got a shotgun and waited as the man began banging on the basement door. She fired when Preyer came crashing through the door. When Preyer collapsed, the woman escaped and went to a neighbor's home, where she called police. Officers, who arrived within a minute, found a bleeding Preyer stumbling away from the house. He was taken to St. Francis Medical Center, where he died several hours later.

1. The bastard got what he deserved
Glad guns aren't banned in Missouri. Also glad that police aren't pressing charges against her.

9. And she didn't need to unload 30 rounds from an AK, either.
You want home defense, there's nothing quite like a shotgun.

11. Got that right.
Most of the time the perp only needs to hear you rack the shotgun and he knows what that is. Usually followed by him getting his ass out of the house as fast as his legs will carry him.

And yep, this a-hole got what he deserved, alright.

16. That's exactly right. the distinctive sound of a powerful, inaccurate weapon being loaded!
NO better deterrent than that.

17. Harder to miss with a shotgun!
Good for her. Although my .357 mag S&W would've done the trick, too.

23. Little tough to carry around a shotgun outside the home

What BS that handguns are for criminals. So far none of my handguns has shot anyone in 15 years or probably close to 30,000 rounds down range.

Rapists don't attack just in the house you know.

As I said before too bad this woman didn't have a gun the first time. But good for her. One less deviant to attack women.

Sorry, but I don't truck with the gun banners or those that think women shouldn't have the best means to protect themselves outside the home.

My opinion is as valid as your opinion. Believe me I feel for every woman who has had to go through the horror of being attacked and perhaps killed by these "killers and rapists" they have the misfortune to come across.

I'd rather at least have a fighting chance.

3. A happy ending, if you ask me...
Now this poor woman won't have to suffer again by sitting through a trial and hoping that the bastard will get convicted.
Guns aren't always bad - if your life is in danger, they can come in pretty handy.

21. Yep...cordless phones may be "convenient," but...
they don't usually work if the power is out.
Nothing beats an old-fashioned "land line" telephone.

24. Actually best thing is take your cell phone with you
Keep the charger in the bed room. That way if phone lines are cut you can call the police. Grab the cell if you go to investigate a possible break in.

If you can best thing to do is barricade yourself in a room with a cell phone and your gun. Call 911. And if the criminal then attempts to break in the room you're using as a barricade then blast him.

18. I guess Cape Girardeau doesn't demand trigger locks, gun safes, ammo stored separately.
She never would have probably gotten through all the "safety regulations" in the dark.

30. Seems rather Darwinian to me.
Stupid oughtta hurt and it sounds like this guy really was pretty damn stupid. He's never gonna rape again, and for that single fact this event was not a terrible thing.

Lock and load, ladies!!!!
