Just for fun: what color should Michelle Obama pick for her Inaugural Ball gown?
I gave this some thought. I think she should either wear fuschia or turquoise. A lovely jewel tone would look spectacular on her!

Ok, ok, I'm being frivolous. I can't help it, I'm too giddy about this election right now...

29. Oh! That sounds lovely.
I was going to say a lovely jewel toned green. But the vision of Barack and Michelle in blue and purple sounded so beautiful. I'm going with you on this one.

6. Turquoise w/ fushia or purple accents would be lovely on her.
I think that any color gown in the blue color family would be appropriate for a Democratic first lady! The jewel tones look great on most everyone and turquoise is a color that almost everyone can wear!

11. Ugh, fuschia
Sorry, not a fan. She did turquoise at the convention, too.

I agree she looks good in jewel tones, but I think ivory would be a classy color to wear for the inaugural ball.

23. I've seen her in fuschia and she's gorgeous.
You are right about ivory. It could be absolutely stunning but it shouldn't have too much yellow or gray in it. As a Winter in terms of her coloring she needs clear, strong tones which an ivory could definitely be. I would also like to see her in a contrasting, patterned bolero that harmonized with the solid color of her dress, but boleros are difficult for long legged women to wear (my buddy who has long legs wishes she could wear a bolero but it kinda "cuts her off" as she puts it).

41. She may look good in fuschia,
but I just hate that color. On anything or anyone.

I agree not too much yellow. Maybe more off-white than ivory. It may not be appropriate, but she's so tall that I think she'd look better in a dress that hits mid-calf better than full length. Maybe with an empire waist and A-line skirt. With bright jewelry, of course.

Just as long as she avoids pastels she'll look great. She looks good in yellow, but even today that's a bit of a faux pas in January: a very saturated blue with some red highlights?

17. Whatever color, it WILL be a Maria Pinto gown
Maria Pinto, a local Chicago designer, has been dressing Michelle for several years (no, she doesn't buy everything at the Gap). She has always made exquisite gowns for private clientele ... but just this summer she opened her first public retail boutique. And it's two blocks from my house!

I've never had the nerve to walk in, but my girlfriend was visiting from out of town the other day, and together we mustered the courage. I saw the turquoise dress Michelle wore for the Convention speech right on the rack (it was $800-plus dollars). But the evening clothes were spectacular. I saw a deep-rose-colored long gown on a mannequin, with a subtle flower pattern, that I thought would look swell for the Inauguration.

Let's see.

(My fave for Michelle would be the cornflower/periwinkle blue of Sasha's dress here.)

We are truly blessed to have this family leading America.

33. After reading Bugliosi's book...
Edited on Mon Nov-03-08 12:34 PM by Iggo
...I am of the opinion that Inaugural Balls should be greatly subdued, if not canceled outright, while our boys and girls are fighting and dying overseas. (And yes, they shouldn't be there at all, but that's not the point.) I don't have the stomach anymore to watch our leader party in wartime, whether it's chimpy or President-Elect Obama.

That said, turquoise always looks good on a woman of her skin tone. But it might look too "prom"ish. Maybe if it's not too shiny.

EDIT: We capitalize words at the beginning of sentences, right? Sheesh!

34. You know, you are right. Something more subdued is in order.
We'd all be disappointed in a way but if Obama said "no inaugural ball while our men and women fight abroad" I'm sure everyone would understand.

Perhaps a reception at the WH where the people could have a chance to attend, if that could be somehow possible...

42. Shape more than color
She is a big woman with wide hips. She looks great in an A-shape dress but most of the time she wears tight dresses that just emphasize her hips.

When she went on the View, with that off the rack white and black dress, she looked great.

I think that an A shape dress offers a fluid view as opposed to the tighter one that break her shape and appear to ride up or just pinch her.
