CUTTING OFF FUNDING is not a fringe opinion
TrueMajority, Moveon.Org, the Progressive Caucus, the Out of Iraq Caucus, United for Peace and Justice, ANSWER, the Hip Hop Caucus -- ALL the people who created the antiwar furor that swept the november 2006 elections -- ALL of them are calling for more aggressive end to this war than what Pelosi has offered.

A lot of people are peddling this BS, "Dems in conservative districts will lose their seats if they vote for cutting off funding!"

Let me explain to you why this is wrong. This argument only holds if these Dems are incapable of explaining why they take a position. In short, if they have no balls (sorry for my sexist analogy but this is from Jon Stewart). They go to their districts and say, "CUTTING OFF FUNDING IS THE ONLY WAY TO GET OUR TROOPS HOME SAFELY."

By time the november 08 elections come by all the US troops will be home safely and those Dems in conservative districts will be applauded.

The ONLY thing keeping Pelosi from backing this option is OIL. She created a benchmark in their bill that says that Iraqi oil has to be privatized via the hydrocarbon law in the Iraqi Parliament. Essentially, it gives this message to the Iraqis: "WE WON'T LEAVE YOUR COUNTRY UNTIL OUR COMPANIES HAVE YOUR OIL."

So cutting off funding, not this BS earmark-and-benchmark program, is the ONLY way to end this war. And the Democrats have a STRONG MAJORITY in the House of Representatives. They CAN cut off funding if they want.

SO DO IT.

IT'S NOT A FRINGE OPTION (I'M SICK OF HEARING THAT).

With "no funding"...exactly how are they going to get home and how are the wounded going to be taken care of ?

You do understand that "funding" means all aspects of running a military.. logistics, health care, etc in addition to the "Hollywood" idea of bombs, bullets, and brawn.

10. As if the Pentagon took care of our troops when fully funded.
Really, that's just silly.

ConstantGardener is right. Cut off the money and bring them home ALIVE.

11. There are two distinct sources of military funding currently going on
There is the regular military funding, built into the budget, year in, year out. It is designed to pay the troops, equip them, take care of them, transport them, etc. etc.

Then there are these emergency war funding bills that Bush has used for the past four years to get funding for keeping our troops over in Iraq, pay for the extra supplies, the mercs, etc. etc. This is the part of the military budget that could, and should be held up in committees until the troops come home. This could be done, it has been done before(the Vietnam war was defunded by Congress, go check your history). In doing so you will not be jeapordizing the troops, you won't be leaving them stranded, you won't leave them without medical care. These are all the big scary right wing talking points that are being floated around out there in order to pre-emptively prevent the Dems in Congress from doing the right thing, the only thing that can end this war, and that is to defund it.

Stop buying into this RW garbage, it's false. The only way that this war can be stopped is cutting off the money. The Dems can do this, they have the power and the backing of the people. It is past time for them to do so.
