Voters in AZ are being told they can't vote.
This happened to my sister this morning. She turned up to the polling station at 5:30 am and when she went in the officials said that she should have voted early and could not vote today. At least 6 of the 12 people in line were told the same thing, but none of them asked for an early ballot and had turned up to cast their vote before work.

Is this a new tactic to remove voters claiming they asked for an early ballot when they did not and denying them a real vote on the day of election.

Everyday a new twist. What will the Republicans think of next.

We reported the problem to the 1-877-AZ VOTES, who are helping my sister take care of this, but how many people are being told the same thing across AZ? Many people are not able to go back later because they work. This really pisses me off.

1. WHY couldn't they "vote today" ?!?
Today is election day!

What possible reason did they have for turning voters away?

:grr:

21. There has to be more to the story - they should at least get a provisional ballot...
...but that isn't happening? WTF?

23. We were told it was a poll worker mistake. That person sent all those
voters to an office down town only to fine it was closed. Seems like she wants to make the process so complicated that people will just give up.

2. ugh, this sucks!
Damn GOP! I would be more oka with their shitty policies if they at least tried to play fairly - like if an actual majority supported them, it would be far easier to swallow. How can the people who support disenfranchising Americans sleep at night?

3. You know if I know I have the right to vote
Edited on Tue Nov-04-08 10:42 AM by krumpli
if I know that I'm registered and if I know I haven't voted yet then damn it I will not leave the place before I cast a vote.

If necessary I call the police. They don't have the right to do this. It's illegal.

But come on are so many lame voters in this country who fail to understand their rights?

12. Ignorant ass poll workers! You have to sign either the book or the envelop.
Edited on Tue Nov-04-08 10:52 AM by lonestarnot
Both are accounted for, and to do both is a felony! Don't let them talk you into a provisional! What ever you do don't take it laying down. Do something!

5. If they ever voted early before they stay on those rolls.
check the junk mail piles and find the ballot - then TAKE it into any pooling location. This happened to my sister - she tore the house apart over the weekend and found the ballot in the junk mail recycling box.

7. This is BS! Most other states you can bring absentee ballots to the polling station on voting day!
That's basically doing the same thing! These people need to be told that they need to RESTORE democracy and stop this fascist bullshit!

22. Sister lives in Tucson and the Democratic Party is on the case
they seem well organized and were expecting some of this. She called the 1-877-AZ VOTES. I don't know if that is only for Tucson or if it works anywhere in AZ.

15. when i lived in Phoenix...
voter disenfranchisement and borderline fraud were committed in every election I have ever voted in. They send college kids around on wild goose chases and they end up saying screw it versus going to a third polling place.

guess they are amping it up because lotsa of those students wont be voting for Gramps!

16. That happened to a friend of mine here in FL in 2000
they didn't give him a reason, though-they just called an officer over when he kept asking "why can't I vote"?, and the cop escorted him out of the polling place and told him not to bother coming back. :grr:

We need a video recording of the poll worker explaining the situation. (Violating her civil rights?)

18. AZ early voter problem here in Yavapai County
Edited on Tue Nov-04-08 11:04 AM by LisaCea
Our family of four all requested to be placed on the "permanent early voter list"

Three out of four of us received our ballots and voted without problems.

My 25 year old daughter did not.

So last Monday, I called Yavapai County elections office to inquire and was told she was on registration lists, ballot was sent out and they would send another. Last THursday it had still not been received and we called to inquire AGAIN. Was told she was on registration lists, ballot was sent out and they would send another. AS of 5PM yesterday it was still not received. Was told she could vote on a provisional ballot if she doesn't get the three mailed to her. Reported to 1-877-OUR-VOTE and 1-877-AZ VOTES.

What a mess!

25. Report it to the Obama campaign, and a major news network as well as local news
CNN has a voting problem hotline. Get the word out.
