On Charlie Rose Tonight...fascinating conversation about Obama
with Jon Meacham and Evan Thomas of Newsweek; a more intimate look at Obama from their 'embedded'
position in the long campaign. They just can't quite quantify him...lol! But nonetheless have
some fascinating insights.

The current copy of Newsweek has many details not yet revealed by the media about their
experience.

1. I did not know they were on Charlie Rose tonight.
Or I would have definitely watched! I just read the article.

There is thread about the Newsweek article posted a couple hours ago if you're interested:

2. And I hadn't seen that thread...thanks!
I'm sure the video of the show will be available soon on Rose's site.

4. One thing they said about the U.S. seemed off...
They said the U.S. is basically a 'center-right' country (compared to other countries), and likes
their change sloooow. They said if it were more left we'd already have universal health care,
and other things like that.

Well maybe, but I'm not sure that is a reflection of the people so much as our 'supposed' representatives and general influence of corporate America on our government.

5. Again, that same stupid phrase
The word must have gone out from the GOP to their pet journalists this morning to emphasize that the country is STILL "center-Right" despite its voting for a liberal. Tom Brokaw keeps saying it too.

7. And they said they didn't expect Obama to deliver universal healthcare

or other things on the 'liberal' wish list.

What I can't stand is them trying to define and label us politically or otherwise!
I think people are naturally much more (for lack of a better description)'center-left'.
But even that attempt at definition gets lost in semantics and
polarizations such as conservative, liberal, etc. Shades of gray.

9. "America is a center-right country" is their latest propaganda
It's all over the airwaves right now -- an attempt to frame the discussion to come. The truth is just the opposite. When polled on the issues, Americans are center-left.

The second thing they're trying to do is say that Obama didn't have a mandate. Of course in 2004, when the popular vote was 51% - 49% and the election was decided by one state, they were yelling "mandate!" all over the place. (Except for Larry Craig, who was yelling "Man date!") Tuesday the margin of victory was so large, and so across the board, that their plans to invalidate Obama's victory by claiming illegalities by ACORN were annihilated, so this is what they're left with. "We didn't really lose. Really!" It reminds me of Rob Schneider's character in "Down Periscope" wailing "These men love me!" after his attempt to take over command of the sub fails.

We won, you lost. Get over it.

6. Great Show Tonight
We are center right. I actually agreed with that analysis overall in regards to how our Country is run and behaves overall. There are certainly more liberal people, I being one of them, but he was correct overall.

8. Well that's how it's RUN perhaps, but I don't think it is a reflection of
the people so much as our system's influence by special interest groups and corporate lobbying.

I don't think there would be a signficant resistance to universal healthcare from the general
population. It would come from special interests.

11. I agree with you but
as we stand right now we are indeed "center-right" in how we operate.
