Closet homophobes create "Bradley Effect"
Obama did not suffer the much-discussed "Bradley effect" this year, but it appears that gay people were afflicted by some version of it

1. A lot of the Prop 8 advertising was intended to
frighten people into thinking that gay marriage was going to be taught in schools. I guess that brought out the inner homophobe in some. My 15-year-old daughter's reaction was along the lines of "So what? What's wrong with teaching kids that every adult has an equal opportunity to marry the person he or she loves?"

Schools are big on anti-bullying campaigns. Seems like this would fit right in. Be tolerant and accepting of everybody.

2. I would love for anti-bigotry information to be taught in schools
Stupid people think that their kids will be gay if they learn that gay people exist.

3. I have a sad but true story
Edited on Thu Nov-06-08 01:05 PM by DaveTheWave
A former co-worker of mine, an African American lesbian who lived in a fairly bad neighborhood, told me how she always looked out for the younger kids in her neighborhood and would protect them if she saw them being bullied or harassed by gang members or drug dealers. We were working downtown one day and she got onto two male teens who weren't in school that day. I asked if they were kids she knew and she said no. As kids in her neighborhood got older they would tell her that they always liked her and her partner, felt safe playing in front of their house when they were little but their parents always told them to stay away from that house.

I guess for those parents it's better for their kids to get accidentally shot in a drive-by, be around drugs and drug dealers or get stabbed at the park so that those two women can't turn them gay :puke:

4. How sad
A lesbian family member sometimes babysits my daughter, and I've had idiots ask me how I can trust her. Stupid, stupid people.

5. Those same idiots probably don't realize that
gay people have more than likely taught their children, provided them with some sort of medical/dental or beauty-related service at some point, sold them some of the stuff they have in their houses and on their backs, cooked meals for them in restaurants, and on and on - in other words gay people are just people.

6. I've always felt that way

I really hate labeling them as "gay" people and even calling it "gay" marriage but unfortunately it has to be used in this conversation for clarity. Same sex marriage and same sex couples would be a little more appropriate terms I guess but still we don't say "white" marriages, "black" marriages, etc.
