NOT Sinking In: The Rs Don't Yet Realize That They Have Totally Lost Power
Edited on Thu Nov-06-08 06:22 PM by stopbush
It's kinda fun to watch!

They continue to aver that the USA is a "center-right" country when - over the past two elections - it has swung strongly to the left.

They rail that Obama is not appointing "centrists" to his administration when the country has taken a non-centrist position on who they want running things (ie: Ds control 2 branches of government, with the election putting the brakes on the SCOTUS swinging further right).

They continue to throw around terms that have either lost their impact or that are having the opposite effect to what the Rs are used to (spread the wealth, liberal etc).

Incredibly, the Rs seem to imagine that they still retain a bit of power in DC when they have been ousted, embarrassed, neutered and shamed into what could well end up being permanent minority status.

They seem to think that their gas-bag rantings will carry them over the next two years in the political wilderness, when they are looking at a MINIMUM of 20 YEARS in the political wilderness. Indeed, the Rs will not return to power as a political party until they clean house of their existing old guard and revamp their ideology to embrace a forward-looking agenda and reality.

If I was running the R zoo, I would toss out the Christians and reposition the Party as a libertarian, religious-FREE party that appeals to the civic and secular side of American life. I would embrace DDE's warning and fight the military industrial complex and the over-extension of our military around the world. I would provide an alternative to the Ds that would make people's heads spin. You know - Goldwater.

But that won't happen as long as the knuckle draggers running things now stay around and stink up the place.

Which is kinda neat...because it means D power ain't going anywhere any time soon!

I'm sure Bush is pouting some too. I sure hope he is because he's the most hated and most unpopular man on the planet.

6. They still have the media. Don't forget that. They also have the SCOTUS
We have the Executive, the Legislative. They have the Supreme Court and a vast number of judges appointed during Reagan's 2 terms, Bush I, and two terms of Bush II. They also have the 4th Estate, which is doing its level best to conceal the fact that the Republicans don't have a title from birth to control the Presidency, armed forces, and the economy.

8. They still have a shot at filibustering in the Senate.
And at pulling the more-conservative blue dogs onto their side on issues.
