Gay marriage and stuff
I've been seeing that rather a number of Gay DUer's have been getting a bit upset the past few days, regarding the Prop 8 result and whatnot.

As a straight female, I support gay marriage 100%.

Gay couples pay taxes just like straight couples do, gay people serve in the military and stop bullets JUST like straight people do, gay couples are just as capable of being loving and caring parents as straight couples are.

In 2008, in this modern age, it's a disgrace that people are actively discriminated against SOLELY because of their sexual orientation.

It's unfortunately going to take a bit more time to educate people, that their FEAR of gay people getting married is completely irrational, WHY do they fear gay people getting married?

It's not going to cause the end of civilization, it's not going to DEMEAN marriage in general, in fact surely it's going to STRENGTHEN the act of marriage.

I find it very wrong that gay marriage is a political issue, it's not the business of politicians to dictate who can and cannot get married.

The thing I'd say to gay people who RIGHTFULLY want to be treated as EQUAL in EVERY way, is that it seems that the gay marriage thing might take a bit more time than you'd hoped, but don't give up or get discouraged, because just a few years ago even, to many, it seemed an impossibilty that a black man would be elected President in a LANDSLIDE, yet that's just happened....so always remember that anything is possible....dreams DO come true.

That's all, that's my two cents on this issue.

1. Thank you so much.
I think it's going to take another whole generation. Probably 25 years and it will be legal in California.

2. You're welcome
Keep the faith....and I bet it's going to be less than 10 years, not 25 years.

I wish that gay marriage was legalized NOW, but it's not going to happen yet it seems, but it will I guarantee :)

5. don't worry, it will not be 25 years
The church cannot be legally integrated with the state. Once this correction has been enforced, gay and straight will enjoy equal rights.

3. The fight to stop Prop 8 in California is still going on in the courts. THEY need donations, too.

4. I have to correct you slightly
You said that "Gay couples pay taxes just like straight couples do"...that is actually incorrect. My husband and I pay MORE taxes than our straight counterparts. My company provides my husband health benefits, but the federal government taxes them unlike my straight colleagues. As a result I pay several hundred dollars PER MONTH more in taxes than they do.

Otherwise, I agree with what you said and appreciate the sentiment.

of you as sort of an old timer like me even though you disappear for awhile. I don't base who i like or don't like on whether one is DLC or not and I don't care who likes me so screw them. there was a time I would rail against the DLC but i have come to realize that is stupid to do on a discussion board for Democrats. You are brave to sport that avatar here though, I must say. :D

8. I thought my unity post might get more than 2 votes, 90 views and 2 votes
I guess some people would just prefer to argue and blame certain groups for what happened on Prop 8, rather than trying to be positive and try to tell our gay brothers and sisters not to give up hope during this unfortunate set-back for them, that there are plenty of us straights who fully support them.

Either people prefer to argue and whatnot OR more likely it's....it's the irrational hatred of the DLC, I mean GOODNESS ME, the brainwashed memo:

"Thou shalt NEVER agree with a DLCer....EVEN if they comment something that you actually DO agree with, thou shalt NEVER publically admit to agreeing"

The brainwashed chant:

"SMASH THE DLCers! THEY ARE THE DEVIL INCARNATE! THEY ARE EVIL!"

W...h...a...t...e...v...e...r.

Thank God the REAL WORLD doesn't agree with such a bunch of hateful and ignorant so and so's.

REAL WORLD thinks, it's good to agree on stuff, regardless what fucking "group" you belong to.

14. Did You Post To Get Attention, Or Did You Post to Express Sympathy?
You post was HARDLY the first one to attempt to "unify". There's a lot to read on DU at the moment. Sorry we all haven't gotten around to handing you your kudos for your vaguely inspirational speech yet. We'll get around to it as soon as we finish addressing the huge fucking hole that was just punched in our lives.
