After all those Mormons marry off preteen girls to men in their fifties....

1. That is actually an excellent idea.

Except for the tit for tat nature of it...if the legal stuff could be written properly, I like it.

7. I oppose it for exactly the reason you allude to...
Tit for tat.

The right of two Californians to marry regardless of gender should be a positive thing, not a vindictive response.

The Mormons are utterly wrong on this. But we need to keep the law on our side. The Constitution would seem to protect gay marriage (cf. 14th Amendment), after all. This is far better than striking back at Mormons for their bigoted behavior by limiting their marriage options.

(That said, I fully support boycotting businesses, churches, etc., that bankrolled the un-Constitutional bigotry that was Prop. 8)

15. Can someone post a list of Mormon-owned businesses?
I think Amway is one, but I don't know. Boy Scouts of America is practically owned by Mormons, so no more donations for them.

6. That could actually pass if the debate was framed strategically.
Edited on Fri Nov-07-08 10:43 PM by Jamastiene
Lots of other religious and nonreligious people think the Mormons are practically from Mars anyhow. I wouldn't incriminate Mars that way, but the Mormons DO have some really fucked up child molesting/enslaving habits that SHOULD be criminalized. If the debate on that initiative was framed just right (translation: concentrate on the child molestation and abuse), it could be successful in more than one state, possibly even in 49 states.

That dish might work out best if it is served cold...later down the road when they think they have gotten away with this and have forgotten about this. It would give us time to regroup, choose leaders who appeal to the broadest spectrum of people, target the right demographics and start placing ministers and other leaders in other types of churches and communities.

The fact is that the one group of people more hated in this country than those of us in the GLBT community is child molesters. Other than the Mormons and the certain Catholic priests, everyone else UNIVERSALLY hates child molestation and abuse.

We COULD fight fire with fire by constantly putting pictures and videos of poor broken looking little girls who have been ENSLAVED into CHILD MOLESTATION in commercials on television appealing to people to stop the child molesters that permeate those communities. Granted, of course, not ALL Mormons are child molesters, there are enough though that ad campaign would take off and fly like the wind.

Then, when that "Stage 1" was finished, they would be damn near bankrupted and we could finish them off completely with the real goal, show them what it feels like to have their rights taken away.

If we did it just right, we could divide and conquer by pitting one right wing religious group against another. Just think how much some of the extreme right wing groups would love to put a stop to the evil devil worshiping non-Christian Mormons...There are QUITE A FEW of those types of extremist groups out there, believe it or not. We wouldn't have to actually deal with any of them directly either. The key would be to reach more moderate groups first to get the plan off the ground, then when the movement takes off, those groups would kick in on their own.

I'd love to see us implement a plan that pits them against each other like that. It would be fucking amazing. Think about what they are like once they get all fired up in their hatred and obsessed with some notion like that...Once the notion took off, we could sit back and let them do all the work while we eat

Am I evil for thinking of such a divisive tactic as that? Yes, I fucking am. After all, I've seen how they do it and learned their tactics well. Why not use it back at them?

11. Not Mars, Kolob!
Edited on Sat Nov-08-08 12:01 AM by Sebastian Doyle
That's the name of the planet where Elohim, Heavenly Father is supposed to live.

They even sing a song about Kolob....

As far as the argument against Mormon marriage, maybe it should be based on the fact that, since LDS weddings take place inside the Temple where no non-Mormons are allowed, how can you verify one way or the other that the man and wife/wives are in fact, actually married?

And all this marrying dead women so they can have extra wives when they become gods of their own planets.... well now that HAS to be a violation of the "Marriage should mean one man marries one woman" thing, right?

16. Most Mormons have a civil wedding before the "temple sealing", IIRC
The state doesn't recognize the "temple sealing", so it's necessary to have another ceremony. Plus, there are Mormons who don't qualify for the temple wedding, so they're forced to make other arrangements.

The plural marriages are practiced by a fraction of believers and the LDS church has gone to great lengths to let it be known they don't endorse it.

The best thing to do, IMHO, YMMV, is boycott Mormon-owned businesses. Our money speaks louder than our words.

8. Talk about greed...you'd think they'd allow gays ONE spouse...
I mean, hell, they're not deserving of the full rights of a proper harem, but that's just downright stingy...

9. But you don't understand. You NEED that harem in order to produce enough spirit children
to inhabit the planet you will rule over someday.

(I always suspected that Romney only wanted to be president as practice for when he becomes a god and gets his own planet.)

10. So instead of one group with inequal protection under the law, we'd have two?
This isn't sounding like a step forward sort of proposal to me, really.
