So Nancy has now become the stereotype RW'ers have labeled people for years
wanting to throw money at failure.

GM = FAIL
Ford = FAIL
Chrysler = FAIL

Not one dime for the failures.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi sought legislation on Tuesday to bail out failing automakers, saying she was confident an emergency measure would be approved next week.

Pelosi aims to amend the government's $700 billion corporate rescue law that now applies to banks and other financial services firms. No figure was given, but General Motors Corp, Ford Motor Co and Chrysler LLC are seeking $25 billion in urgent assistance.

that I am completely 100% for the Auto bailout. I do think we need to push for environmental standards, but we can't let these companies tank.

2. Ummm then the Repugs can look at themselves for bailing out the
banks...Nancy only followed what they did..especially since 1 out 4 jobs in America is tied to the Auto Industry.

3. Its easy to criticize. Do you know how many Americans these companies employ?
What's your solution?

4. eyah, I wasn't exactly for the previous bailout, but I could see the reasoning
here, I see no reasoning. If the american car market fails, there are several honda and toyota plants (to name two) still operating in this country providing american jobs.

5. the banks were sterling examples of financial responsibility?
if GM et al go under, that would send such a wave through the economy it would take decades to recover from

they aren't the mom and pop store on the corner; the industry employs thousands of workers and related industries employ thousands more

whole areas would be destroyed economically

can you image what would happen to Michigan?

8. I favor the bail-out of the Big Three except with one twist.
The government will buy out entirely the Big Three and run it for a transitionary period. Once the new decision-making structures are in place and the old leadership at these auto companies sacked, ownership of the Big Three will be turned over to their respective workers. They will be three large labor co-ops as a result.

We are not going to throw good money after bad here. If the executive management continually fails, they need to be replaced with new management. The workers seem like an obvious alternative.

10. I like your idea
I like this idea! This concept seems to have worked well in certain countries in South America after economic meltdowns caused top management to abandon companies and their workers, and then the workers taking over the companies and running them far more efficiently and money being shared more equitably.

I think its time to admit that the corporate management system, especially as it is now practiced, is an utter failure of catastrophic proportions.

9. Many times you can determine a persons motives by
seeing where the financial support comes from. Who did the UAW, and all unions for that matter, contribute to? They now expect a return on that investment to save their jobs.

How did this whole insane bailout get pushed through congress? It's probably no coincidence that the Chairman of the banking committee, Christopher Dodd, was the largest recipient of financial support from the banking industry.

Always follow the money.

13. On board with Carly
Carly Fiorina was saying the same thing: A WEEK BEFORE THE ELECTION.

This lead to another instant McCain flip-flop.

I don't think letting Detroit fail is a serious option.
