A friend of mine responded today to a greeting I had sent him. He works in a very large chain Dept store in CA.
(Larger than Circuit City)
I'm changing a few things to keep the company unnamed, and preserve his privacy
==================
Quote:

"Well, I have complained a lot to you about XXXX, and we're down to 3 people in my whole dept now. Biz has dropped way down in the past months -but check this out; Sat, Sun and yesterday were NUTZ! We borrowed some ppl to help out - had 4 of us in the pit all at the same time Saturday for most of the day and could not keep up with the demand for XXXX. Sunday was almost as crazy and Monday only slacked off a little. Today was normal/busy, and Tuesdays have been DOA for months.
What changed?

Aha...

Obama was elected. I think even though the economy hasn't actually picked up - peoples' spirits have. They're spending money again."
==================================

The reason I post this is to illustrate people are normalizing and seeing a future, this seems to be born out by some polls and surveys, and that includes those who did not vote for Sen. Obama.

Though we are still in for many rough spots, and dropping shoes, the Obama sun is rising and peeking through.

1. Well, yeah.
But this ain't over by a long shot. The full mess hasn't begun to be revealed. If Bush had been an enemy agent, he couldn't have done a better job destroying us.

2. I hope I indicated that I understand your point ahead of time, I want
to show a dawn of the lifting of the collective spirit which I feel in people around me as I go about my daily life

3. I agree completely
It's a matter of believing in ourselves again.

Like they say, things rot from the top and we've had a rotten administration for too long. At least now we feel that the administration won't be working against us.

And to quote Howard Zinn when he said about the possibility of a Kerry presidency in '04, "We'll have a little ledge to stand on." That's more than we've had, Mira.

4. I noticed this at the mall on Saturday. It was very busy and had been dead for
months prior to the election. I asked a retail person about it while she was ringing up my clothes - she agreed that it was much busier and had been crazy all day. There was a noticeable upswing.

5. After being happy for a few days, I'm right back into pessimism mode
All these problems seem too big for one administration to solve.

It's a great time to be 22 :sarcasm:
