Does SOS mean
Edited on Thu Nov-13-08 10:46 PM by Breeze54
Shit On Shingle?

You know that recipe Mom made!

Ground hamburger and onions fried up together, then drain
the fat, add mushroom soup and a little milk and let it simmer.
When thickened, spoon over toast, mashed potato's or rice. :9

5. I actually do have a new keyboard but I hate it.
My son got it for me last Xmas but the letters are white and it doesn't have an LED to
tell me Caps Lock is on and I'm very near sighted and so, it's hard for me to use it.
I appreciate that he got it for me and I don't want to hurt his feelings but it's difficult
for me to use it.

Enjoy your 'Shit On A Shingle'!! :P

4. Ha! Now I'm hungry too!
:P

I just moved and haven't unpacked anything much yet.

But I do have some Steak-Ums.... :woohoo: Blah.

But to cook that would require my walking to the

new kitchen and.... screw that!!

I'll just have Vermont Sharp Cheddar Cheese and Ritz crackers.

Much easier. ;)

6. that's not sos. sos came out of wwii and is alternatively called
chipped beef on toast. my dad (a wwii vet) used to love it. mom only made it for him, tho'. she wouldn't let us eat it . . . or we WOULDN'T eat it, which is probably more accurate.

sos

12. Hell... I doubt I'd have made it through basic training without SOS.
We all joked about it, but we all ate it up. It's not unlike biscuits and gravy which is probably more popular than grits.

I had it growing up and my dad and uncles all had it in WW2, no matter whether Army or Navy, Europe, Pacific, or stateside.

Yum!

11. Hey; ellenfl! That WAS SOS at my house; after WWII and 7 kids, I guess that's all they could afford.
But we survived and ground beef in a mushroo0m sauce over mashed 'taters was THE way WE made it!

I guess that's how they 'stretched' that budget and afforded private schools and college for seven kids. ;)

You must have come from Rich Folk... to afford "chipped beef." :wow:

15. Of all my chow hall meals,
SOS with eggs was my favorite. Even waited on midnight chow just to get some SOS in my stomach before sleep. That was late 60s. As far as I know, it's still a G.I. delicacy.

7. I prefer the Army SOS made from dried
chipped beef, the official name was creamed chip beef on toast. I still like to have it from time to time. Another Army delicacy I liked was powdered scrambled eggs and ham.
