New e-mails to fuel scandal over US attorney firings
More e-mails due for release Monday may shed light on whether the firing of eight US attorneys was politically motivated, in a deepening controversy that threatens US Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.

The content of the documents to be released by the Justice Department may play a key role in determining the fate of Gonzales, who is under pressure to resign amid reports that his firing is close.

Democratic Senator Charles Schumer (news, bio, voting record), who leads up a Congress probe into the firings, predicted Sunday the attorney general's head will roll, and fairly soon.

"I think it's highly unlikely he survives," Schumer said on NBC's "Meet the Press" show. "I wouldn't be surprised if, a week from now, he's no longer attorney general."

Most of the attorneys were fired in December, ostensibly for poor performance.

1. Yahoo has to get in that 'fired for poor performance' dig.
and doesn't mention that Bush is late. Yahoo didn't mention Bush was under order to release those emails and that the deadline to release those emails was Friday.

No wonder the people know diddlysquat.

2. Apparently, the situation may be even more complex
Gonzalez deserves to be strongly commended for his leadership in this area, IMO.

Attorney Says Justice Dept. Sold Same 'Obscene' Material As His Client
By: Mark Kernes

TEMPE, Ariz. - AVN noted Wednesday that one of the interesting aspects of the recent Justice Department (DOJ) firing of several U.S. Attorneys was that two of them – Paul Charlton of the District of Arizona and Dan Bogden of the District of Nevada – were canned because they were "unwilling to take good cases" that had been presented to them by the Justice Department's obscenity unit...
