How Obama Can Save The Auto Industry

Well this occurred to me while reading an article in my local paper today

CHARLESTON, W.Va.{/b] -- President-elect Barack Obama might be Smith & Wesson's best salesman ever.....
...........Across the country, weapons dealers are reporting a dramatic sales boost. The Federal Bureau of Investigation received more than 374,000 requests for background checks on gun buyers for the week of Nov. 3 to 9. That's a 49 percent increase over the same period last year.

Assault weapons, in particular, are flying off the shelves. The hottest picks include the AK-47 and semiautomatic AR-15 rifles. The latter is a civilian version of an M-16.

"We've sold 60 of the AR-15s and 30 of the AK-47s in the past week," Beane said. "We've sold out of those guns three times."

Sales at Kessel's store are up 200 percent over last year's.Assault weapons and ammunition are selling out at an unusually swift rate there, too. In a week, Spring Hill Rod & Gun has sold more than 100 cases of AR-15 ammunition. It also sold 18 AR-15s in three days. "This has been the best couple of weeks," said Kessel, who opened shop in 1994. "It even beats Christmases."

So here Obama, without doing anything or contributing to the deficit, is already massively stimulating certain sections of the economy.

So I think maybe over the next few weeks he needs to start saying stuff like

I'm thinking of banning Hummers and any vehicle with a huge gas guzzling engine before the end of 2009 to stop global warming

or

We are seeing too much recreational driving we need to stop. I feel we may need to declare a moratorium on sports cars

or

There are too many people driving trucks who do not need them. I'm going to introduce legislation to prohibit the purchase of trucks to people who can demonstrate an actual need for them

This will send millons of consumers to the dealers to buy cars and the auto industry will be saved. What do you think? ;-)

3. Infusion of capital to leverage WORKER BUYOUTs, conversion to worker-owned cooperatives.
it's a two-fer ... save the auto industry PLUS outsource-proof and stabilize all jobs saved/created
by the infusion..
