You're introduced to bush at a party: Do you shake his hand?
Imagine you're at a fancy function several years from now and someone introduces you to the former president, g.w. bush. He stretches out his hand to receive yours. What do you do? What DO you do?

It's pretty fucking bad when one world leader refuses to shake the hand of the president of the United States of America, and it's downright embarrassing when a whole room full of world leaders refuses to do so.

How would YOU handle it?

1. If secret service is there I guess I probably wouldn't actually spit in his face,
but no, I would not shake his hand and I would turn my back to him.

41. They need to revoke Former Vice President Protection Act of 2008
Former Vice Presidents, their spouses, and their children who are under 16 years of age, for a period of not more than six months after the date the former Vice President leaves office. The Secretary of Homeland Security shall have the authority to direct the Secret Service to provide temporary protection for any of these individuals at any time thereafter if the Secretary of Homeland Security or designee determines that information or conditions warrant such protection.';

If we can't get it revoke do it by changing the name of Homeland Security.

Thankfully, he can only be protected not longer than 6 months after leaving office.

4. I certainly wouldn't stretch out my hand to shake his, because
I'd want no part of him.

But if some how it became a situation where he reached out to shake my hand, I would shake out of politeness, but he would notice a lot of tension on my end.

Now Cheney, I might just kick the guy in the nuts.

11. I would roll my eyes in disgust, put a look of distaste on my face,
and say "You were the worst President, ever. You created a huge mess while in office." and then I'd turn and walk away.

No way in hell would I shake that man's hand. I have no respect for him. I respect the office he holds, but I don't believe for one second he deserves to be in that office, nor do I believe he was duly elected to that office.

64. Not necessarily. "The cut" is a highly civilized form of rebuke.
There is no requirement that we shake hands out of politeness. It is considered to be perfectly appropriate to "cut" a person who is deserving of social ostracization. This is how it's done ;

The person you don't want to meet is coming toward you. They're appearing in your line of sight. You're going to have to meet them face-to-face and probably shake hands. Suddenly, you are somewhere else. Just like that. You move quickly but smoothly and you are talking to somebody else in some other spot. That's it. Simple.

Also, don't forget that women are NEVER required to offer their hand in a shake, and it is rude for a man to offer his first. Therefore, it is acceptable for a woman to simply disregard a man's hand. This is rarely invoked as it certainly is a rebuke to the man offering his hand, but it's not a social faux pas by any means.

67. It's impolite to snub someone.
You don't have tell someone you think they're wonderful, but it's impolite to make of show of not shaking someone's hand. It feels unnatural to me. I don't care enough about Bush to want to make myself look like a self-righteous jackass for his sake.

And I don't think they refused to shake his hand. He met each and every one of them when their limousines pulled up and shook their hands and welcomed them. If you notice, they are greeting each other for the first time, and he's not even extending his hand.

I mean, he's the worlds most hated man, but other countries have manners. He's the boor. Let's at least not make up crap. That's what Hannity and Limbaugh do.

It's only polite, and despite how much I despise the man, he is a former president, and it's the least amount of respect I could give him.

Keep in mind, however, that I prefer to have a very strong grip when I shake someones hand, and the former President may need to contact a medical professional to set the bones properly. And to take care of the syphilis.

50. I shook Poppy's hand once
and I'll never forget it. At the time I was non-political 19 year old mostly concerned about being drafted. One of my best friends had a Rupuke mother when those were scarce in Texas (can you believe it?). My friends and I came into the house where the mom was having a "Republican tea" and there was George H. W. Bush who was running for congressman. We were introduced and had to do the obligatory handshake. I don't know what it was but you know the feeling when you touch someone that sets off some kind of electric attraction? Well this was the opposite. I didn't say anything but thought I should wash my had in lye or acid. It was really creepy. So I would avoid shaking junior's had at all cost. At my age it just might kill me. BWWAAAAHAHAHAHAHA!

58. No.
A couple of years ago, I attended a rather small reception for Dan Quayle. After speaking, he rounded the room shaking hands. When he got to me, I took his hand, and made some sort of obligatory polite comment. I took from that moment two things that have never left me - his hollow, blank, expressionless eyes and a sense of anger with myself for being so polite to him. I have always felt that I should have walked away from him instead of being polite.

68. I managed to give him the finger TWICE
Here in Halifax Nova Scotia about 5 years ago. Once on the way to a speech he was making and again on the way back. We were watching on local TV and saw his motorcade coming our way.

I was about 18 inches away from his car window and he had that stoooopid grin on his face.
Most people were booing.

Great day.
