Impeachment: I'm asking you. Do you think it's time?

Dear Friends,

Today is the fourth anniversary of the war in Iraq. We know it was wrong to go into this war and it's wrong to stay in.

For four years I have been working to end this war, including leading the effort to cut off continued funding for the war. There is enough money to bring our troops home and we should do that.

But the Bush administration, with the help of some in Congress, wants to pour more money into this war.

Worse than that, the Bush administration now is signaling its intention to wage war with Iran. We cannot allow that to happen.

So I'm asking you. Do you think it's time?

I'm talking about time for impeachment.

I ask because we are now have a condition in this country where we are told to take impeachment off the table, and keep on the table a U.S. military attack against Iran.

This situation calls for us to reconsider very deeply the moment that we're in – where our Constitution is being trashed, where international law is being violated, where our hopes and dreams for the education of our children, for the health of our people, for housing, for our veterans, are being set aside as we go deeper and deeper into war.

We need a whole discussion in America. And with your help, we're about to have one.

Absent 67 Senate votes, it's a fool's errand.

Unlike proposing legislation, impeachment would be a one-shot deal. Get it right and get it done the first time, or it's over.

Let's keep the hearings going - not impeachment hearings - but good old investigative hearings. Hopefully something big enough to really force the issue will emerge.

But doing it now would certainly fail.

A prosecutor doesn't indict someone, THEN do the investigation and gather evidence. It's the other way around.

Congress needs NOW to gather the evidence. If it proves compelling enough to garner a conviction, THEN they impeach.

Torture, wiretapping, lying us into a war. For their "failures" on 9/11 alone, they should be impeached because they failed to defend or protect anything.

A month ago I'd never have guessed I'd hear of any Republicans asking for Gonzales' resignation.

Ain't nothing in the constitution I can see that says Impeachment can only be tried once. Heck, first let's try for the DSM. if that doesn't work let's go for the yellow cake lie. If that's not enough to sway the Repos, let's go for Katrina. If that fails, let's go for outing Plame. If that falls short, let's impeach for cooking the intel. etc etc.

There's so much that warrents impeachment we won't run out of perfectly reasonable reasons.

The sooner we start the better.

do - he was asked in 2004 over and over about impeachment and he always said, "We don't have the votes."

His Congressional re-election site forum had a policy of not allowing any mention of impeachment until November 2006. Things change when you are in the majority party, obviously.
