How about a War Tax?

Let's pass a law that forces Congress to raise all war funding through new revenues. Enforce a war tax and pay it as you go.

Let's see how long the support lasts!!!

1. That Would Not be a Bad Idea for the Iraq War

The off-budget accounting and massive borrowing for the war have been absolutely appalling.
The country should pay this kind of thing at the time, if for no other reason than to appreciate the true costs.

On the other hand, there's no way World War II could have fought without issuing war bonds, so in the event of another large-scale war effort, it would have to be repealed.

2. Or just say companies can't make a profit supplying a war - it has to be wholesale.

And the military gets to say who supplies what, because they know what works best.

4. It would have the military industrial complex lobbying to keep us out of war...

...so they wouldn't have to swallow a big loss. They'd be trying to make a buck on every other conflict in the world, though.

SUV tax
Oil company and any company profiteering on Iraq tax
Any company that farms out jobs overseas to India tax
Country Music tax
Church tax

8. Excellent idea at this time...

Bush may be the "decider" but Congress decides on taxes. If he wants to ignore everyone in regards to this war, a war tax on his biggest supporters would be an excellent idea. I think Congress have already passed the "pay as you go" legislation? Make him pay for his misadventure - one way or the other. He bragged about how much he cut the deficit previous to the last election but never said anything about the $100's of billions off the books.
