What the hell good is Rove and Miers' sworn testimony...
if they "take the Fifth" on every question?

I fear that's exactly what will happen, and without immunizing both of them, there's no way to compel them to answer anything.

"State your name for the record, please."
'I take the fifth.'

3. That would be great. The President's top advisors refusing to incriminate themselves

would make my day.

Couldn't be a better way to push congress to impeach.

I hope they try that.

7. many things have happened since then. Leahy said no way to that proposal.
Said he will issue subpoenas. Conyers' office said (to a DUer on the phone) that Wh has already agreed to let them testify under oath.
they have a choice between under oath voluntarily, under oath udder subpoena, Adan trying to fight the subpoenas, which WILL be issued.

8. That is just what the White House
OFFERED......The Congressional Committee will not accept that. Per Lahey and Schumer.

5. I agree with the three prior posters
Since a congressional hearing is not a criminal trial, if Rove or Miers take the Fifth, the committee will be entitled to presume that any answer they would have given would have been bad for them.

In the court of public opinion, taking the Fifth is the equivalent of confessing.

10. IANAL, but I don't believe "the Fifth" is available in civil proceedings.
It's a protection against self-inCRIMINAtion .... in criminal proceedings. Unless there's a criminal proceeding (investigation, prosecution, indictment, etc.), I doubt it would be permitted.

They'd be cited for contempt of Congress, I believe ... and whatever penalties that confers.

13. No cattle prods.
I got a better idea: Let's waterboard the sumbitch.

In fact, let's get the best waterboarder the CIA has.

Waterboarding Rove will do three things:

First, it will let us torture Rove some, and that would be worth the price of admission all by itself.
Next, it would allow the American people to see what waterboarding really is, and not what Pigboy says it is.
And finally, it would make it very clear that the preznit that would allow something like that needs to be impeached.
