and blaming everything on "playing politics."

He's got his gunslinging stance goin' on.

Anyone else watching this?

I'm just amazed at his resilient hubris.

(Edit. I didn't see one of the several ongoing threads on this. I'm working with the TV on in the background...apologize for starting a new thread. But did I say "Holy FUCK at his hubris!" )

11. The real problem is the transcript. Even just being interviewed it is illegal
to lie to Congress. But without a transcript you'd have a devil of a time proving lies were told.

49. Actually, Nixon said the opposite --
http://cstl-cla.semo.edu/Renka/Modern_Presidents/nixon_speeches.htm#Second_presidential_term

"And, with ground rules adopted that would preserve the basic constitutional separation of powers between the Congress and the Presidency, I directed that members of the White House Staff should appear and testify voluntarily under oath before the Senate committee which was investigating Watergate.

"I was determined that we should get to the bottom of the matter, and that the truth should be fully brought out—no matter who was involved.

"At the same time, I was determined not to take precipitate action and to avoid, if at all possible, any action that would appear to reflect on innocent people. I wanted to be fair. But I knew that in the final analysis, the integrity of this office—public faith in the integrity of this office—would have to take priority over all personal considerations."

congressional subpoena means you can be charged with contempt of congress ... of course, this requires a committee vote and a full house vote, and then the matter must be sent to (irony alert) a U.S. Attorney who can then pursue an indictment.

37. Good question--I don't know if Congress gets to select the attorney, but
I would guess they probably do.

Also, I should note that I was mistaken before when I said U.S. Attorney--it can actually go to an assistant U.S. attorney or higher, according to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contempt_of_Congress
