Gonzo Contacted By Prosecutor On US Attorneys Firings
This morning, as we noted, the Washington Post reported that the prosecutor Nora Dannehy has met with defense lawyers and issued subpoenas, through a grand jury, in her investigation into criminal wrongdoing in connection with the US Attorney firings.

And it looks like Alberto Gonzales, the former Attorney General on whose watch the firings occurred, is among the people she's contacted.

In an interview with TPMmuckraker, Bob Bork Jr., who serves as a spokesman for the ex-AG, initially said that although Gonzales' lawyer, George Terwilliger III, had reached out to Dannehy at the start of her investigation, he didn't believe that Dannehy had formally contacted Gonzales or Terwilliger in connection with the probe.

But Bork Jr. called back an hour later to say that he had been mistaken about that. "We won't be able to talk about any interactions with DOJ," he now said.

In other words, it would appear, Dannehy has contacted Gonzo and/or his lawyer.

2. Bork JUNIOR!!??!
This RW crowd is like The Phantom; they keep recreating their predecessors for generations. The Bushes, the Sununus, the Borks, the Romneys (yeah I know: the dad wasn't so bad), it just goes on and on.

4. It's all a "show"

This will "look" like they are planning to go after him, but in reality, they are providing a "hint" to junior for his pardon list..

The brains behind *² will make sure that pardons cover their slimy trail..

Th ebest approach would have been to "ho-hum" all the transgressions, and then on Jan 21, issue a whole truckload of subpoenas to grand juries to the lot of 'em:)

5. Tweety said that Gonzo is rumored to be on the
list for a pardon. That would make Clinton's pardon of Mark Rich look like 'baby business'. :puke:

6. Federal Taxpayers are picking up the Bill for Gonzo's Lawyers
Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) and House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers (D-Mich.) want Attorney General Michael Mukasey to give them the details on how much the Justice Department is spending to defend former AG Alberto Gonzales....

"Following the publication of the Inspector General report, several individuals whose applications for employment through these programs were turned down during the period that the hiring process was improperly politicized have filed suit against Mr. Gonzales and others who held senior positions at the Department at the time,'" Leahy and Conyers wrote. "Recent press accounts indicated that the Department of Justice has decided to pay up to $24,000 a month for a private attorney to represent Mr. Gonzales in connection with this lawsuit. As far as we can tell, the Department has thus far failed to confirm or publicly account for any aspect of this arrangement."

The two chairmen want to know who at DOJ approved the agreement with Gonzales, and why, if IG Fine found that the alleged politiicization of the hiring process may have violated DOJ policy, "did the Department determine that the conduct at issue in this lawsuit was within the scope of Mr. Gonzales’s employment and that his representation is in the interest of the United States? "

They have the potential of making this all look like the world's greatest cover-up.

12. Maybe we could send Gonzo on an indefinite fact-finding trip to Gitmo:
he could try out the orange jump-suits, enjoy the fine cuisine, inspect the accomodations ...

After five or ten years we could send a reporter to interview him to find out what he learned

I think it would be a shame to let all that fine legal talent go to waste
