I'm so damn proud of my parents!

This isn't a political thread, but I just have to share an adventure my parents went on last month.

My parents, who live in Utah (non-Mormons, BTW), had heard about a beautiful area, known as "The Wave" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wave,_Arizona)(wiki)on the Utah/Arizona border, which is renowned for its fantastical sandstone formations. This area is only accessible on foot, and access is strictly limited by the BLM, which allows only 20 visitors a day into the area. The hike is "only" about 3 1/2 miles, but the terrain is extremely rugged and difficult, even for young, healthy hikers. For my Mom (age 74), my Dad (77) and their friend Janet (80), this was a daunting challenge, but one they had dreamed of and planned on for months.

Not bad for three old geezers, eh? How many of us will be up to a trip like this in our eighth decade?

I know that area. I can't imagine being able to do that when I'm their age (if I live that long).

I love red rock country and have hiked in many beautiful places in southern Utah. Good for your parents and their friend.

I hope I am so lucky to still have the stamina to hike when I reach that age (in 25 years) :-). I'm so glad they made their dream come true.

I hope I'm able too do that sort of thing when I'm that age. I've never heard of that place. Thanks for sharing.

When my folks sent me a CD with these pictures (actually about 90, altogether), I was just bowled over. I shared them with all my friends and at the office. I had never had a Flickr account before, but I went and opened one just to share this with the world. There are any number of calendar-worthy shots there--the only problem would be narrowing it down to 12!
