Sandra Day O'Connor: This Constitutional Crisis is for YOU!
Enjoying your legacy? You, the "moderate" voice on the Court said "oh, this isn't good" when Florida was called for Gore.

So after all was said and done, you worked your magic to select this man as President. Today, you can see that he clearly thinks the Executive Branch is above the law, as if there was any doubt. And since you're not around anymore, just take a guess how Scalia and his gang will rule.

Another 18 holes, Sandra? This is your legacy.

When she was on the talk shows regarding a new Iraq policy, she was so defensive and ready to snap.

22. She SHOULD HAVE A GUILTY CONSCIENCE!
Thanks to HER we're living through this disastrous administration that SHE helped appoint.

I hope she takes her guilty conscience to the grave with her. She should hang her head in SHAME for the rest of her life.

10. Imminent retirement clouded her judgment
And her husband had Alzheimer's and needed care.

She misjudged Gore, she misjudged Bush.

I think she knows it.

She could redeem herself by revealing what went on in Bush v. Gore. We know Clarence Thomas' wife was on the Bush Transition Team. What don't we know about that absurd decision?

O'Connor's still sharp and alert.

The truth about Bush's two election victories would go a long way toward redeeming America in the eyes of the world.

15. This is compassionate. I, too, wish she could find it in her heart to clear the record
She made a mistake in siding with the radical right on this issue, and I have never understood why. What kind of pressure was brought to bear on her, and possibly her family?

I don't understand the need to damn her, either -- she was outnumbered by the growing numbers of Supremes who are not conservatives but radicals. THEY are the real problem, and THEY remain on the court.

Hekate

18. How could anyone in the position of Ms O'Conner possibly "misjudge" Bush?
It's totally obvious to anyone with a functioning brain that Bush is an uninformed, incurious idiot.

21. My guess is she mistook him for Barry Goldwater.
You know, frat-boy handsome, physically fit, Western rancher, conservative.

Her admiration for Goldwater is well-known, and Goldwater stood up for her when Jerry Falwell said she was not morally fit for the Supreme Court. Goldwater said, charmingly: "“I think every good Christian ought to kick Falwell right in the ass." (from WIKIPEDIA)

The disenchantment of many Goldwater supporters with Bush administration is well known. They now see that (my opinion) Bush is a chicken-hawk faux rancher running a huge deficit and a supporter of big, intrusive government with religious right alliances.

Goldwater would kick Bush in the ass -- again my opinion.

25. It really makes me wonder what sort of conversations people in Washington have..
Edited on Thu Mar-22-07 01:59 PM by Jonathan50
I mean anyone who had a conversation with Bush on a serious subject *must* have come away knowing that he is an uninformed moron.

As to your point about Goldwater, it might be so. My first political awareness was in 1964 when Goldwater was running for president. I was taken by his AuH2O signs and helped pass out literature and bumper stickers for him.

I think Goldwater was a genuinely honest politician and I agree that he probably would put a boot up GW's ass.

26. The Corporate Right doesn't mind lightweight figureheads.
They probably didn't care that he was, as you say, "an uninformed moron."

Sainted Ronald Reagan was no mental heavyweight. And Schwartzenegger?

I have a family member who is a highly placed right-winger. I once challenged him about his support for the Washington Times newspaper, which he admitted was controlled by South Korean intelligence money. "Okay," he said, "they're bastards, but they're OUR bastards."

Somehow I think the old Corporate Right assumed they "owned" Bush. But they lost control when he was seduced by the Neocons and the Religious Right.

This is HER fault.

14. I DON'T CARE IF SANDRA STABBED AL IN THE BACK.
If we had more Sandras and fewer Antonins or Clarences there would be NO SUPREME COURT CRISIS!

Sandra Day O'Connor was not the problem. The problem was that WE ALLOWED our members of Congress to approve far more radical Supreme Court Justices than Ms. O'Connor ever thought of becoming. They continue to curse us with their presence to this day. THEY are why we need to fight for every last seat. THEY are the enemies of freedom!!

Sandra will be no friend of mine but Antonin, Clarence, Sammy and Johnny are FAAAARRRR worse by any measure!!!!

20. Voting in favor of Bush v Gore was a radical act..
Probably the most radical act in the history of US jurisprudence..

None Dare Call It Treason

Vincent Bugliosi

In the December 12 ruling by the US Supreme Court handing the election to George Bush, the Court committed the unpardonable sin of being a knowing surrogate for the Republican Party instead of being an impartial arbiter of the law. If you doubt this, try to imagine Al Gore's and George Bush's roles being reversed and ask yourself if you can conceive of Justice Antonin Scalia and his four conservative brethren issuing an emergency order on December 9 stopping the counting of ballots (at a time when Gore's lead had shrunk to 154 votes) on the grounds that if it continued, Gore could suffer "irreparable harm," and then subsequently, on December 12, bequeathing the election to Gore on equal protection grounds. If you can, then I suppose you can also imagine seeing a man jumping away from his own shadow, Frenchmen no longer drinking wine.

Much more damning indictment of the felonious five:

23. O'Connor is why we're having to SUFFER through these maniacal, dangerous, hateful,
CRIMINALS that have their hands around our country's neck...strangling it to death! FUCK that wench. SHE and she alone is responsible for this cabal being in power. Shame on her. She knew what the hell she was doing. It was her payback for her appointment.

I didn't even vote for her when she was running for a Superior Court post.
