To all of DU...
I had some very good news today, and I wanted to share, and say thank you to this community.

Last March I was diagnosed with Type-2 Diabetes; my HbA1c measured 10.6, and my fasting blood-sugar was 477. :dunce:

A whole lot of people here at the DU encouraged me, shared experiences and advice, and generally acted as a bunch of friends would have, although I know none of you. You encouraged me to adopt some healthier approaches to life.

I changed my diet (including portion control), started some regular, mild exercise, and an oral diabetic medication(not insulin). I also was faithful about monitoring my blood-glucose levels.

Today I got the results back from my second set of follow-up exams:

My HbA1c level is maintaining at 7.1 (darn close to where I should be)

My daily blood-glucose levels have been ranging between 85-110.

I still need to drop about 35 pounds, but I have lost 15 so far...

AND I FEEL SO MUCH BETTER THAN I DID IN MARCH !!!!!!! :woohoo:

And I am posting here, in GD, because I can't remember all who took the trouble to encourage me in March, and I don't want to miss anyone with my thanks.

The encouragement I received really did help me make the transformation.

So: THANKYOU DENIZENS OF DU! :D :hi:

Mods: please feel free to where you think this appropriate; I would hope it can stay here long enough for the regulars to read it.

3. Congratulations, man. You're beating it.
I'm happy for you, and very proud of you. I see so many patients with Diabetes who just can't get motivated to change their lifestyles. Stick with it. We're all with you! :grouphug:

4. Oh that is just excellent!
You hang in there and you will be down in the 6's in no time. Have I seen you in C&B because it helps to get new recipes and cooking methods so that you don't feel deprived. My latest number was 6.1 and it is such a thrill to know your work is paying off. But mine was never as high as yours - yikes! How scary. So glad you're better.

keep it up .

My BIL was diagnosed at 20 w/ diabetes he ignored it
and refused to take the oral insulin .

Now he is 46 and on dialysis . His kidneys have
ceased functioning . We are trying to get him to stop
smoking so he can get on the transplant list but
he's still smoking .

You can manage this thing . I'm very happy you for
and your loved ones that you have chosen top fight it .

I myself have a blood test tomorrow .I've gained quite
of bit of weight since the birth of my son . I haven't
been exercising much either.

I am a preschool teacher so my job is pretty physical.
I got the nintendo wii and the wii fit board recently.
My husband and I have been regularly using it .

I'm hoping I can become healthier myself .
You are an inspiration and should be very proud .

10. Whaddaya mean you know none of us?
I've seen you around the Photo Group and on the board lots of times. Some of my best friendships have started that way!

Glad to hear you're feeling better. I know just how much the weight loss alone can make you feel. I recently lost 50 lbs and suddenly my feet stopped hurting, my back stopped hurting, and I actually would rather take a walk than sit and watch tv, just for the sheer endorphin pleasure of it. So congrats on what you've accomplished so far, and here's to your continuing on this healthful path!

13. Great news, although I had not been aware of this challenge you are facing.
I knew, from your postings here, that you have a good mind, a kind heart, and a great eye, but not that you faced this adversity. Very glad you are succeeding.

14. That's fantastic! I'm so happy for you because I know what a struggle it is. My husband
was diagnosed 2 years ago and sometimes gets so tired of all the constant monitoring. But he's doing great. His A1c is 6.1 and his glucose levels are the same as yours. GOOD JOB!
