Marine to be awarded Navy Cross posthumously
By Tony Perry, Times Staff Writer
March 20, 2007

CAMP PENDLETON — Marine Lance Cpl. Christopher Adlesperger, who was killed during the battle in Fallouja in 2004, has been selected for the Navy Cross, the Marine Corps' second highest medal for combat bravery, the corps announced Monday.

The medal recognizes Adlesperger's actions on Nov. 10, 2004, when he saved the lives of innumerable Marines by showing leadership and courage during an assault on a heavily armed insurgent stronghold.

In 30 minutes of close combat, Adlesperger killed at least 11 insurgents and protected two squad members who had been wounded, allowing Marines to destroy the site.

His squad had been assigned the dangerous duty of searching dozens of houses in the opening phase of Operation Phantom Fury.

I'm amazed they got that family to smile...poor people, they haven't even got to the anger stage of the grief cycle.

RIP.

:patriot:

(Edit: I am no way trying to demean the soldiers memory or his families loss. The photo irked my jaw.)

2. It has been 2.5 years. I am sure they are working things out. Modern grief
models have pretty much abandoned the 5 sequential stages model.

They do describe the cyclic nature of the grieving process, where many feelings or very few may be felt at any given time. But there is a gradual trend towards healing and moving forward with the cyclic processes superimposed over it.

3. I'm not a psychologist by trade...
What does psychology mean by "superimposed?"

Just curious to see if you've got a conceptual definition.

4. I am not in the brain trade either. But recently went through the loss
of a loved one.

Superimposed is probably in the dictionary. My meaning was that the in positive outcomes, there is general trend towards healing that we can visualize on a graph as a straight line gently sloping upward, left to right with time on the x axis.

Now, assume that there are various emotional crises that take place during this time. Periods of extreme saddness, feelings of loss, separation, anger, guilt etc. These can be represented by turning the straight line into a sine wave, or simply a a series of waves in a line starting in the lower left and moving to the upper right.
