I have decided to give Mr. Obama a chance
I hate most of his cabinet picks, especially Hillary Clinton, and I've been reading post after post here on DU by many like minded individuals about how he's already starting to show his true self as conservative.

And then I stepped out of myself for a second and reminded myself that he hasn't even been inaugurated yet.

When Mr. Obama betrays liberals, I will be here with the rest of you expressing my criticism and outrage. But how about we wait for him to actually start being the president? The optimist in me is hopeful.

1. Oh good, President-Elect Obama wasn't able to sleep the last few nights
worrying about whether he'd get your approval!

9. Sigh. It's really my fault. I freely chose not to say every little word...
Edited on Thu Dec-04-08 11:27 PM by BlooInBloo
... knowing full well DUers' glee in exploiting any possibly syntactic loophole through which to jump through with the specious counterexample.

It really is my fault. I don't usually forget that I'm playing with such intellectual children, but this time I did.

My bad.

"... as President".

There.

EDIT: And of course, you're completely correct. He HAS done LOTS of things. He has brushed his teeth. He has fallen asleep. He has woken up..... My apologies.

13. It's not a childish point. Your condescension, though, is more disturbing than your syntax

Pres. elect Obama has assembled his Cabinet early, and with a great deal of care, in order to make some sort of impact. It's just ridiculous to expect voters not to make judgments on those efforts. That's what he expects and that's what he intends.

The problem you have looks like it isn't that those judgments are being made, the problem you seem to have is that some of the judgments made are negative.

The ridicule you're using here appears to be an effort to make folks feel foolish in expressing how they feel about those efforts the Obama transition is making. I think the uncritical cheerleading looks foolish, but there I go again, being negative.

3. An optimist never gets a pleasant suprise.
And a pessimist never gets an unpleasant one.

Sometimes it's nice to be pleasantly surprised.

Even if it is seldom.

4. Obama is a rare breed, a pragmatic no-nonsense progressive.
Guess what? He might actually get something progressive done for a change, rather than
wind his ideological BVDs around his ankles like the rest of them always do. He is one sharp stick, if he can't do it NOBODY can.

5. Even if Mr. Obama was the most liberal of all of us, the poor man
has such a mess to clean up that it would take him years to even suggest a liberal agenda. Give the man the time he needs to clean up Bush's mess before hammering him for not doing what you want. We really need to cut him a lot of slack for a couple of years.

If you didn't support Obama, then this place wasn't for you anyway.

Then what? Who could?

BTW, 1 20 09 is still like 47 days away.

10. I'm sure Obama is very relieved............
If you thought Obama was a far left liberal, you didn't listen to anything that he has said over the last couple of years.

15. I'm with you. No sense in getting too upset about things. He's our President
And I'm confident as long as everyone "stays on the reservation", so to speak, that it will be his policies that are implemented.

17. The time to get out in the streets and object was during Bush's terms
and very few did. The phoney outrage now is pretense.

Obama will be the most liberal President we've had since JFK. Ok? It's not going to get better than this, unless we work with this one, and move the public consensus farther down the road to the left... by demonstrating success at solving our problems, where conservatism has so spectacularly failed. And working with this President does not include helping the other side throw rocks. There are enough of them doing that already.

In short, I agree with you OP.

Picking a cabinet is a part of the job of being President.

But, I'm still very happy for him to be in the job, after eight years of utter hell. As I said in another thread the other day, Obama can sit on his ass and play video games for eight straight years and he'll be a better President than Bush ten-fold.

19. But ... but ... I voted for him without realizing he was a politician. I didn't know
he was going to talk to different people and try to get their various points of view and see if he could craft coalitions and all that stuff. I mean, really, what's up with all that? He should be grateful enough for my vote to do exactly what I wanted him to do. I feel ... so ... used
