On Chris Matthews and the Senate
I've been thinking it over the past few days......Tweety might not be the sharpest knife in the drawer and we may not agree with what he says all of the time. BUT I think he could be a good advocate for everyday Americans (or as Sarah Palin would say, "Joe Six Packs") in the Senate and might be a breath of fresh air when compared to all of the professional politicians and corporate hacks in the Senate.

Plus, how cool would it be to have Al Franken (we can hope) and Chris Matthews in the Senate at the same time? :P

1. Well, first you'd have to get Franken there
Let's not count any chickens, please. Don't jinx Al.

And my guess is that Tweety will never run.

3. IF Chris Matthews wants to be a "player" in DC (elected to federal office)
he would be much better off running for a House seat. His temperament will not match well with the Senate. And, as a freshman Senator, he won't get that much in the way of important assignments. That's just the way the Senate works.

I'm guessing that he is waiting to see IF Al Franken wins... meaning that a former media pundit / host CAN be elected to the Senate.

6. I think Senate assignments depend on who your friends are.
Biden got on Armend Services at age 27. Hillary got on that committee in her Freshman year. Obama didn't do bad on assignments either. I suspect Tweety has made a lot of friends in the Senate over the years, and although I dont wish him any ill-will, Spector is getting pretty old, and he just had another bout with cancer. It's hard to say how Tweety would behave in the Senate, but we sure could do worse.

4. My wife and I contributed to nearly every Senate candidate this year...
...but I think Matthews would be a hard-sell for her, because of the way he handled Clinton during the primaries.

5. I think he's too erratic and self centered to be a senator.
And that's a room full of self centered people.

7. LOL. Matthews? The empty vessel with no principles who spins like a weathervane?
Edited on Fri Dec-05-08 04:00 PM by tom_paine
This one succinct sentence sums up the disgusting Matthews: Neither side trusts a traitor.

Matthews fellated the Bushies for seven long years...still does occasionally. Once this odious, disgraceful coward saw the Democrats, thanks to 100,000,000 angry people ready to rumble if the Bushies stole it from us this time, were about to take power, this disgusting excuse for a human being, who himself admitted that he has no principles in his book that describes life as an "endless campaign".

Only a morally bankrupted person could view life in such a way, with no beliefs or principles to anchor one down. I am not sure which is more disgusting. The unctuous Matthews kissing up to Ann Coulter and Loofah O'Harrassment, or trying to pretend he didn't for the six yars prior to his shifting fellate-ees a couple years ago.

LOL. What has become of DU? Now we are kissing the ass of human garbage sacks like Matthews?

Quite frankly, since Matthews has played both sides, he is neither Republic nor Democratic. He is a disgusting cowardly worm with no principles.

Sadly, if the PA Democrats are misguided enough to nominate this empty vessel of cowardly bootlicking, and if PA is foolish enough to elect him to the Senate (the thought of Spectre -sic- vs. Matthews is enough to make on gargle Drano in despair for the future)

then I have NO doubt whatsoever that Matthews will make a FINE addition to the odious, disgusting, cowardly, and principle-less Nancy Pelosi Wing of the Democratic Party.

Of course, I might speculate that the Nancy Pelosi Wing of Odious Unprincipled Spineless Congresspeople actually comprises some 80% of the Democratic Congressional Delegation.

Sad, but very likely true.

8. Thanks for the post...I agree........all with the exception of the last part
He will become a "fine addition" the wing of the Democratic Party you describe, as long as they hold on to power that is.

IF the Repubs happnened to take control, Mr. Weathervane, I'm sure would take little issue with spinning easier than Traitorman.

The fact that this guy is being bandied about on DU as a good contender makes me want to hurl.

9. I agree, WTF has happened to DU? It's like all the DUers are home resting
from post-election fatigue and a bunch of people who have no idea what DU is about or what the score is have now descended to remake it in their :puke: image.

Don't get me wrong, please. Post counts are irrelevant to whether a person makes a good point or not. Being a newbie is no sin, and that is NOT what I am trying to say.

I am merely observing a relatively recent change in the timbre of DU.

And yes, the large-scale DU support of a creepy Bushie like Matthews is in itself creepy.

Weren't they watching Tweety from 1998-2007? Or did they just let 'er drop down the ol' memory hole, never to be seen again.

11. He's got some serious health issues. Complications from diabetes...
that have made him miss chunks of time on Hardball.
