Are you as eager to see Robert Blake behind bars?
Robert Blake, Phil Spechter, that Petersen guy (cop with the wives who disappear), Why isn't the public as hungry to see justice in these cases?

44. not unsolved, actually
go forward a couple more months

it's a long ugly tale of how the man who committed the murder was actually jailed not very long after he killed her, he was a pattern attacker who had mugged several other young women by grabbing their purses in exactly the same way in exactly the same spot (hey, i didn't say he was a smart mugger!)

for whatever reason political interests deliberately bungled the questioning of the man (providing him no representation in spanish, he did not speak english) and screwed up the case so badly that they could not proceed to prosecute him for levy's death (he killed her by accident in the course of robbing her) but they were able to get him on the attacks on the young women who survived and were able to ID him and how he worked

why the media continued to badger condit in the press for a murder that he demonstrably didn't commit, and that was demonstrably a mugging for her purse, well, your guess is as good as mine or maybe it isn't -- but there are lots of reasons for accusing a man on the front page and exonerating him on page 32 and none of those reasons have anything to do with right or justice, more to do with selling hysteria for profit and accusing a democrat perceived as vulnerable

And one legal entity claiming that this somehow proves their innocence doesn't make it so.
Only a trial by a jury of their peers could accomplish/have accomplished that.

15. its all about money
I never really followed the OJ trial when it was going on years ago, I was too busy earning a living.

But with what I know about OJ, Blake ad Specktor...it is the amount of cash they have that has/or will keep them out of jail.

If OJ had been a poor man...of any color and he killed his wife...he wouldn't have been able to spend the amount of money he did defending himself.

Same goes for the others...

The Petersen guy is "getting away with it" because his police background helped him commit a so-far perfect crime and perhaps some police officers are "helping him out"

sadly there are innocent men who spend their lives in jail because the didn't even have a decent public defender...if only justice could not be bought and was equal for all...

17. the media hoped to turn the Blake trial into something similar to OJ
but it just didn't have the same "appeal" to the public.

OJ was a bigger star than the others

this was talked about before but it also had to do with the victims. people had more sympathy for Nicole because she was attractive, seen as a good mother, good person etc. while Blake's wife was viewed as not attractive, someone who just wanted his money and had a past that people didn't like.

remember one of the Blake's thug friends was on tv outright calling blake's dead wife a bitch, golddigger, etc.

20. Prison as garbage disposal
I don't want to see anyone go to an American prison. Prisons serve the same function as an in-sink garbage disposal: shred what is undesired into little pieces and flush it down the drain, never to be seen from again. Another aspect of the "use once, throw away" culture where anything or any person with a flaw or momentary failing is discarded, never to be allowed to trouble normal society ever again.

Perhaps one day prisons will be run by social workers and psychologists who will know how to use behavioral methods to turn out repaired individuals and not by fascists who turn troubled people into full-blown psychopaths.

55. I gave the expected answer
because that's what the OP was hinting at so I just said it. I refrained from a sarcasm smiley because I thought it would be obvious how ridiculous it sounded - guess I was wrong.

That being said - there are plenty of people who are racist and want OJ to get it more than the other assholes - true enough. There are plenty of people who think ALL of them need to get theirs.

ALL of them disgust me and should never see the light outside a jail cell again.

My theory on the OJ obsession is EVERYONE knew and liked OJ - the others were not as famous or well liked. OJ was a talented and personable celebrity who had it all and an example of achieving it all. I think there's a human trait/flaw(whatever you want to call it) that likes to see someone who has it all fall whether that is right or wrong.

33. BECAUSE THOSE OTHER GUYS DIDN'T GO OUT AND COMMIT STUPID CRIMES *AGAIN*!
Don't give me this "you're all racist" crap. OJ has done NOTHING to keep himself out of the public spotlight since his "Not Guilty" verdict. For god sakes, he even signed off on a book entitled "IF I did it"-and that was before he charged onto someone else's property, armed with loaded weapons, to "get his stuff back." Dd Robert Blake or Phil Spector do that?

THAT'S why OJ Simpson still excites the public more than the others--because he got away with murder and didn't LEARN anything from the experience!

Good - Being outraged that a celebrity has been convicted of a crime, even though not one of us had any influence over the judge's decision and the celebrity appears to be guilty of the crime for which he has just been convicted, not to mention the loser of a civil case in which he was found to be responsible for the deaths of his former wife and a man he'd apparently never met but just killed for the hell of it.

Also good - Mocking and criticizing the families of those murder victims for seeking justice.

46. Yeah, sure, but I don't get your post...
... As I don't get what public opinion has to do with any of these cases. In my personal opinion, Blake, Spector (I corrected your spelling) and Peterson (again, I corrected you spelling--don't thank me. I'm fastidious about spelling. I somehow equate it with the cogency of one's argument)are all guilty of the crimes they're alleged to have committed. They should all be in prison. In my opinion. Obviously, I wasn't on the jury at any of these trials. So my opinion is just that---an opinion. By the way, I also think O.J. was guilty of murder. But if his recent conviction for lesser crimes is based on anything other than those crimes themselves, well, that would obviously be unfair and un-Constitutional.

51. I don't think it's a racial issue.
I didn't think it was a racial issue 13 years ago. The 1995 trial was a fascinating trial with colorful characters, tons of evidence, witnesses galore, prosecutorial and police misconduct and ineptitude. The timeline took place over a period of several hours and was full of twists and turns. It read like a crime novel or a movie script. Blake, Spector and the other guy haven't gotten nearly the press as OJ. Not because of race, but because there just isn't as much to report on. Blake's life has been sad for 60 years. He killed his star-obsessed wife outside a restaurant. Not much there. Spector is an oddball who somehow managed to shoot a washed up actress in his home. The end. These two got about as much attention as Bob Crane's murder, Phil Hartmann's murder, and a hundred other cases. You're focusing on the wrong issue when you ask if someone is "as eager to see blah blah behind bars". That's race-baiting. The OJ murder case was different somehow. It had the right combination of things that kept people's attention. I learned a lot about law from the case. I also learned how divided along racial lines our country is. Some black people thought OJ should be found innocent because of something LA cops did and their history of abuse. One has nothing to do with the other. I kept hearing that white people were against OJ because he was married to a white woman. I don't think that was an issue at all. I don't know anyone who thought he was guilty and should be punished because he was married to a white woman. I never heard it, I never saw any wink-wink, it just wasn't an issue. My family, many of whom are VERY right-wing, were divided down the middle on guilt or innocence (this includes the ones who are now practically suicidal over Obama's win). It was not a divide along party lines. I had a very right-wing aunt (now deceased) who said OJ would never kill his wife with his own kids in the home. I asked what makes him different from thousands of others who HAVE killed a spouse with kids in the home. We had great debates about the evidence. It consumed our lives for a year. I think the press played up the bi-racial marriage a lot more than the public did. I thought he was guilty, but I understood the verdict because of the misconduct. He was found "not guilty" and not "innocent".
