He said he was going to give me some "pre-screening" questions,

so that I could see or hear how the polling questions would go.

I said that's fine. Ask away.

Then he just asked some basic questions, starting with...

Are you registered to vote?

Are you registered to vote in your county?

How old are you?

Do you come from an Hispanic non-English speaking background?

When I answered that question as no, he said

"Thank you for your time" and that was the end of the poll.

Weird.

1. You answered those questions?
Man, when I get those "poll" calls, as soon as they ask for personal information, I hang up.

Remember - you have no idea who's on the other end, and would you give a perfect stranger that kind of information if you and he were standing on a street corner?

I won't.

3. Well; they weren't really 'personal' questions...
He didn't say my name when he called. I've been polled many times
during the primaries and during the campaign after wards by Gallup
and a couple of others. I don't think I fit the demographic they were
attempting to target. I'm not worried about it.

7. He didn't need your name
He had your phone number, and, yes, asking you your age, if you're registered to vote, what your ethnic makeup is - in my world, those are personal questions.

People fail to understand how easily they're tracked.

9. The phone is not in my name.
:P

If he wants to "track" me; as in like trying to steal my identity or my money?

Have at it!! Maybe he can improve my credit rating!!

2. Not weird; you clearly didn't fit the kind of demographic they were looking for for their survey.
That's all.

5. I always tell them I'll answer they're questions if they'll tell me who it's for.
Even if I have to wait until after the questions, I'm OK with that.

6. Well; he told me up front whom he was doing the research for...
He said Wall St Journal and I didn't catch

the last company name, possibly Time Warner?

He said it really fast.

8. And you believed him?
How can you prove who he was?

Did you ask him where he got your phone number?

10. He was a pollster. I doubt he was calling for nefarious reasons.
Relax, I have nothing he can steal or would want to. :P

11. How do you know he was a pollster?
Not somebody bored, dialing numbers, playing games?

12. I can *69 and find the phone number he used but, imho, he sounded professional.
He didn't sound like a kook. I'm guessing you have never been polled before?

13. Honey,
at my age, I've been polled, poled, and poleaxed.

If you're young and trusting and inexperienced enough to believe that someone "didn't sound like a kook," I applaud the protected world in which you've dwelled.

Try *69 and you might find out that that "number is unavailable." That feature doesn't always work. Or didn't you know that?

Now, I'm a professional, advanced degrees and all that, for more than thirty years. Can you tell that by how I write?

Do I sound "professional"? And, what on earth does that mean?

Ah, never mind. You got a phone call today. Congratulations.

14. No, you don't sound professional at all. You sound psychotic, "honey"!
:eyes:

I'm guessing I'm older than you or about your age and I'm well aware about the pitfalls of giving out "personal" information, WHICH I DIDN'T DO, but if you actually go through life, as scared and frightened as you sound like you do, then I think you may have some issue's. Me? I've been through hell and back and that call didn't alarm me at all. I'm pretty good at knowing the difference and have had "alarming" calls from crooks and I took care of them fast but, IMHO, this guy was legit and harmless.

Thanks for your concern. :eyes:

15. You can tell I'm psychotic from these posts?
Wow. You're incredibly talented. And are you registered to vote? What's your age?

I mean, you do answer strangers' questions, don't you?

Well, at least we know now that you respond to dispassionate remarks with name-calling. That's very nice.

You're very welcome. I do hope you get your own phone someday.

In the meantime, I'll wager your assumptions - and how you come to them is probably a mystical process as yet unknown to the rational world - will keep you comfortable. I don't think your trip "through hell and back" (poor baby) did you much good. I mean, a post because you got a strange phone call? I'm as goofy as you are for responding, but, you know, we psychotics just tend to pick up on the less gifted members of our culture and then we enjoy playing with them - mouse, catnip, you know the rest. And you keep coming back for more, which I think is testimony to something. I'm sure you know what I mean because you've "been through hell and back". Plus, you know how to answer the phone.

I had, by the way, absolutely no concern for you. I have no concern for you. You're pixels on a screen, and, quite possibly, that's the crowing achievement of your life.

Congratulations again on your phone call. I hope you get another one tomorrow, and, honestly, thanks for the entertainment.

Now, go spread joy. And will you be able to resist answering this one, even when I tell you that I won't read it?

Can you? Hmmmmmm?
