WH coaching staff on how to sum up idiot son's record
Edited on Tue Dec-09-08 08:51 AM by babylonsister
For Bush's staff, upbeat talking points on his tenure

Administration officials get a memo from the White House suggesting what to say about the last eight years: President Bush upheld 'the honor and the dignity of his office,' for one.

By Peter Nicholas
December 9, 2008

Reporting from Washington -- In case any Bush administration officials have trouble summing up the boss' record, the White House is providing a few helpful suggestions.

A two-page memo that has been sent to Cabinet members and other high-ranking officials offers a guide for discussing Bush's eight-year tenure during their public speeches.

Titled "Speech Topper on the Bush Record," the talking points state that Bush "kept the American people safe" after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, lifted the economy after 2001 through tax cuts, curbed AIDS in Africa and maintained "the honor and the dignity of his office."

The document presents the Bush record as an unalloyed success.:eyes:

It mentions none of the episodes that detractors say have marred his presidency: the collapse of the housing market and major financial services companies, the flawed intelligence in the run-up to the Iraq war, the federal response to Hurricane Katrina or the abuse of prisoners at Abu Ghraib.

3. Goddam it! There was no "flawed intelligence" in the 'run up to the war'
Not one single bit of the intelligence was flawed. Bush went to war despite the intelligence, not because of it.

9. The most damning criticism I can come up with:
Bush's successes over his 8 year tenure can be summed up in 2 pages. Even Millard Fillmore would have more than that.

10. If you put it in the perspective of the war on the Middle Class ...

... and the plundering of the economy ... yes, his eight years was an overwhelming success.

... and he will surely go down in the history books as the Worst President EVER.

11. Why would they stop now?
Everything for the last eight years has been in service to politics and nothing but for the Bush administration. Every move they've made has been calibrated through the prism of politics, from launching wars to disastrous economic policies to even such seeming no-brainers as to whether to assist the victims of natural disasters.

So, just to put the pickle on this crap sandwich, it's time for one more round of bogus talking points that "journalists" won't feel constrained to gainsay or put in context even when they're out-and-out lies.

13. ",,,maintained 'the honor and the dignity of his office.'"
This one intrigues me, because it's so like damning with faint praise. What are they trying to say here (or cover up)? That he didn't openly snort cocaine at state dinners? Didn't pass out drunk at cabinet meetings? (Did Bush have cabinet meetings?) Saved the snuff videos from Abu Ghraib for the ranch? Articulated every syllable of every word really well, in public, with the help of earphone prompters? (Ever really listen to the guy speak? A speech coach has taught him how not to slur words, so he overemphasizes syllables and consonants. I'm not sure what they're trying to compensate for, but I suspect booze/drugs). It's as if they're saying, "Good boy! Good Bushie! You didn't totally disgrace yourself." Upheld the ol' honor and the dignity.

It would be comical, if so many people weren't dead because of this shitfaced puppet (the "Decider").

It's also kind of a left-handed compliment (so to speak) for the Democrats in Congress (of the 10% approval rating), for helping him "uphold the honor and the dignity" of murder, plunder and looting by the rich and the powerful. That took a lot of upholding. Bush couldn't have done it all by himself.

I think that should be inscribed round his statue in, oh, say Poland. "He upheld the honor and dignity of...", and just leave the rest blank for visitors to fill in. The honor and dignity of...

Babies' bodies blown to bits by "shock and awe" bombing.

Children with no arms, or legs, or with bashed up heads, dying in understaffed Iraqi hospitals.

Tortured prisoners shitting in their pants.

The bloated bodies of the poor floating around the flood waters of New Orleans.

The old and sick dying in their wheelchairs in the stadium.

Dick Cheney ordering all-night work on restoring power to the east coast oil pipeline instead of the hospitals, during Katrina.

The commander of a battleship with two hospitals on board, right off the coast, ready to go in, not being able to get anybody in the White House on the phone.

An old guy--not a good guy, a bad guy, but nevertheless a human being--hanging from a rope in Baghdad, his old bones twitching with death--ikon of the Bush Junta.

The ever-anonymous (to us) civilians in Afghanistan who keep getting blown away by an Air Force that can't seem to figure out who is who, because their commander doesn't give a fuck.

And, lest we forget, the "honor and dignity" of millions and millions of Americans without jobs, without homes, unable to pay their bills, lining up at food kitchens--getting squeezed ever more tightly every day by the cold hands of the "have's and have mores" who put on such "honorable and dignified" $100,000 a plate dinners for George W. Bush.

Much to remember. Much to praise. He didn't stumble. He didn't slur. He told a funny fatcats' joke. Even with all that "honor and dignity" up his nose and running through his veins. A president for Mt. Rushmore, surely. Such vision (he made it to the podium). Such honor (got the goods on everybody, heh-heh). Such dignity (lucky thing those suits have a codpiece).
