This one really socks one to the "I'm voting for Bush because he is more Christian" types.

Earlier this week, President Bush sat down for an interview with ABC’s Cynthia McFadden during which he was asked about his views regarding the Bible and evolution:

MCFADDEN: Is it literally true, the Bible?

BUSH: You know. Probably not ... No, I'm not a literalist, but I think you can learn a lot from it, but I do think that the New Testament, for example is ... has got ... You know, the important lesson is "God sent a son."

(On whether there is evolution or if God created life)

BUSH: Well, I think you can have both. I think evolution can -- you're getting me way out of my lane here. I'm just a simple president. But it's, I think that God created the Earth, created the world; I think the creation of the world is so mysterious it requires something as large as an almighty, and I don't think it's incompatible with the scientific proof that there is evolution.

Some righties aren't likin' what they're seeing. Rob Schneck, a Christian Right activist, has said that he's been saying Bush was never this Christian President they've been playing him out to be. Uh huh, suuuuuure.

"By that I mean I love to pretend on the outside that I am a sober, born-again, Whole Hog Bible Beeleever, but secretly (smirk) I have, um, my own peculiar free-thinkin' bee-leefs in important stuff like, um, golf, and WMDs, and torture, and Gawd, and the 'elite' Have-More members of society, and, um, manly bald guys like Jeff Gannon, and Swiss Bank Accounts, and, um, military service, and the, um, people of New Orleans, and Skulls & Boners, and kicking back with, um, refreshments at the Imperial Pig Farm Upon Crawford, and golf (did I say that already?). At any rate, as you can tell, I am my own, um, sort of, um, guy.
