Breaking: Senate fails to reach agreement on auto bailout bill
No more details.

McCain is voicing his opposition to the bill.

1. The Republicans wanted to destroy the UAW with the compromise bill.
The whole wage and benefit parity crap!

The original bill that passed the House isn't even going to come up for a vote because it's going to fail anyway. It's dead.

Fucking disgusting!

16. How will the GOP rewrite this tipping point?
Edited on Thu Dec-11-08 11:22 PM by TripleKatPad
Down go the Big 3. Down goes the backbone of American manufacturing.

The dominoes collapse across the country. Down goes steel, plastics, transportation, auto parts, electronics, computer parts, dealerships, and all the companies who support all the companies who support the auto companies. I should add an etc., etc., etc., for all the cogs I forgot, including the Starbucks the auto workers frequented.

Surprise! The not-a-recession turns into a depression-to-end-all-depressions.

Sooner or later: The Rethuglicans do a rewrite. Who could have known this would happen? Besides, it was Clinton's fault (both of them). Yeah, and that "hope" guy in the White House. And all the Democrats! Yeah, that's the ticket.

MSM: Yeah, the thugs have a point! Democrats suck! Let's beat that point to death. (Ratings trump Country every damn time, so I have learned.)

//end of rant. My excuse? Too lubricated after Company holiday party in outer-Motown, where we personally feel and fear every Rethug move.

2. Our party is so fucking useless sometimes.
If the roles were reversed and the republicans had a majority, this bill would have passed already.

3. There weren't enough votes to pass it.
There were at least 2 Democrats who were siding with the Republicans against the bill.

15. Plus--
We don't have a Senator from Illinois and Biden is missing, so we have only 48 Dem Senators. Even so, the yes vote was 52 so some Repubs did the right thing.

4. Local Detroit TV news reporting that UAW refused to accept punitive GOP terms
Edited on Thu Dec-11-08 10:39 PM by TahitiNut
The GOP has torpedoed the remaining backbone of US manufacturing and organized labor. It's gonna be a ghost town around here.

10. Harry Reid's statement right here:
"To all those within the sound of my voice: We have tried very very hard to legislate for the automobile industry," Senate Majority Harry Reid, D-Nev., said on the Senate floor. "I am very sorry we have not been able to find a conclusion."

We are so fucked!

11. I hate to say this..
but I am glad that the Democrats didn't shit on the workers. I hope that something can tide them over...maybe a loan from Bill Gates, or Warren Buffett..and then they can come up with a new bill after the inauguration.

12. Senate Repukes wanted workers to cut wages.
They met, decided they had to have the concession, and killed the loan.

Go UAW. Let the CEO's take the hit.

14. I'm really surprised, and pleased that ..
the Democrats didn't fold. I have a hard time believing the Republicans will really go to the wall with this, but I hope to Christ the Democrats don't lay down.

13. Mr. Mcain
Thank you very much for reminding me why you are unfit to be president. I may have wanted some concessions BY THE CEO's, but the GOp opposition to the bill is showing itself as yet another way to steal the poor's pennies so the fatcats can roll their dollars.
