2. Let's take some bets.
I suck at this, but I'm going for 1,000 down, Alex.

3. Unfortunately, a large drop
Hard to say how much, but I fear your thousand plus estimate is far from an unrealistic expectation.

4. It will drop 880, finish 650 down.
I hope it's only that bad, but I actually fear it will be worse.

5. It depends on what that dummy in the white house will do.
People will be waiting to see if the drooling monkey will use the TARP funds to help the automakers.

6. 4000-5000 in the next 60 days and that still isn't the bottom.

10. I don't think so
I think it'll be three steps back, one step forward. I predicted 7000 by the time we get rid of Stupid and I'm sticking to it.

I don't think the big egg will get laid on Wall Street until the Xmas sales figures come in.

7. The circuit-breakers kick in at some point to stop that from happening.
It used to be at 10% the market shuts down for an hour. I don't know what the cutoff is these days. The number seemed to vary in ways I wasn't aware of.

8. Current first-level circuit breaker is 1100 points on the Dow
Edited on Thu Dec-11-08 11:55 PM by Newsjock
The number is adjusted quarterly and is 10% of the previous quarter's value. There's no readjustment to reflect the recent collapse, so the number is very high in percentage terms.

9. I recall that they didn't let the number float on a daily basis.
Thanks. I guess it is possible and with this news after expectations being so high I would not be stunned.
