He was a friend of the center-left philosopher and fellow Austrian Karl Popper, so he obviously diddn't go around pissing people off. The Randoids, on the other hand, are INSANE.

IIRC George Orwell once made a snappy retort against Hayek's book "Road to Serfdom", but I can't remember it off the top of my head.

9. What most fail to recognize regarding the Hayek libertarianism ...
... and its rejection of privilege (especially and particularly state-enforced privilege) is that it also rejected corporatism even in its nascent forms. The notion that some state-created entity would become an essentially unbounded proto-government in and of itself is wholly contrary to that style of libertarian thinking. Thus, when today's pseudo-libertarians merely rail against "big government" and give a pass to the rampant global corporatism, it's an ideology without a foundation -- without solid philosophical grounding.

Folks who style themselves as "libertarians" today are usually cartoonish in their idiocy.
