However the Big 3 End Up Getting the Money, How Long WIll it Help?
It looks like chimpy is going to do what the repukes refused to do, and save the Big 3 from going under. My question is, to what end?

Is this a band-aid or a cure? Will we be facing another bailout in a couple of months? How long is it worth it?

I understand and appreciate the need to save the jobs and keep these companies going. For every auto manufacturing job lost, some 8 others are lost. But, are they really viable?

1. I think so...
...but only if they change much of their approach to auto design and construction. That may take a while, which is why I'm pretty sure $15B is only the beginning.

At the very least, it will keep them afloat long enough for the Obama administration to come along and develop their own plan.

2. I think we need to keep them running while we transition over to more
renewable things. Scale them back, make less brands and models - retrain workers in other factories to build a green economy.

If you can build axels, it's not a lot of training to build windmills....

3. general motors is the second largest auto assembler in the world
toyota is first and their sales have dropped over 33% and falling.

50% of toyota profits are generated from us sales.

ford is`t asking for money at this time. ford has enough credit to wait till january 21,2009

4. It's simply delaying the funeral for as long as we're willing to subsidize them.
The scam is to call it a "loan" or a "bailout". It's a subsidy to keep them going to save jobs, not the industry.
