Yay-WHOOP!1 Ron KIRK in final vetting for OBAMA cabinet (Transportation)!1
This would be a fine Democrat IN TEXAS (incredible!1), a protege of Ann RICHARDS, served as (TX) Secty of State, first Black mayor of Dallas, and valiant candidate to replace the despicable Phil "Enron" GRAMM in 2002. Yes!1 Please!1

Former Dallas mayor Kirk vetted for transportation secretary role

Mcclatchy-tribune

WASHINGTON — Former Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk is a finalist to be secretary of transportation in an Obama Administration, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.

Kirk himself confirmed in an interview that he was under consideration and spoke from his Dallas law office Thursday evening while he said he was filling out a final vetting form for the Obama transition team.

"Yes, I am being vetted. I've met with the transition team," said Kirk, the first black mayor of Dallas. "I'm honored. I got into this interesting relationship with Sen. Obama. I'm honored that my name would even be mentioned."

Kirk, a partner at Houston-based Vinson & Elkins law firm, was an early supporter of Sen. Barack Obama for president.

And a refresher on the wingnut Ruben NAVARRETTE, the last paragraph where he gave advice to Texas Dems AGAINST Kirk:

NAVARRETTE is another one of those Affirmative Action dudes who, like Clarence THOMAS, emerged from their Democratic-sponsored hand-up apparently traumatized and self-hating, therefore committed to lashing out at anything Democratic and favoring every wingnut position.

The angle that hooked NAVARRETTE is that Hispanics ought to be free agents, not be "owned" by the Democratic Party. The wee problem with this is that the alternative is to "belong" to the wingnuts, who just want Hispanics to be their (literal) yardmen and houseboys. Yep, there's something wrong with Affirmative Action, since those "Liberal" colleges turn pod minds into wingnuts. The suspect mechanism for teaching this supposed "independent thinking" is the devil's advocate gimmick, which tends to make the pod mind think it is very, very smart--smarter than the evidence supports.

In 2002,when Texas actually had a Democratic chance with Ron KIRK running to replace wingnut whackjob Phil "Enron" GRAMM, NAVARRETTE was lecturing the Democratic Party on "loyalty" to Victor MORALES, the high school teacher who had been running eccentric campaigns in a pick-up truck on weekends for a couple of cycles, the selfsame MORALES who later refused to support the Democratic nominee (KIRK) in the general election. NAVARRETTE constantly parrots the Rethug line, contrary to his supposed home-Hispanic group's interests, then gives "advice" to the Democratic party contrary to its winning chances, and supports the Hispanic WINGNUT-tokens based on RACIAL/RACIST grounds (Alberto GONZALEZ, Victor MORALES, et al. ) .

1. I don't know enough about Ron Kirk, even though I'm a Texan, but I remember back a
ways when he was running for Senate (or was it Gov.?), and I fussed at him in an email because he was against something that Dems are usually for - too much water under the bridge since then for me to even remember the topic.
