My company is downsizing. Fortunately, I still have a job.
I work for a huge multi-media corporation. There were 3 people in my department. Two were laid off, also one editor. Now I will have to do the work of 3 people. I will have job security, at least until the company goes belly-up. The company has many offices in other states that are laying off employees. Our revenue depends upon advertising in our magazines and nobody is advertising.

1. My company was nice enough to hold a company wide town meeting
to tell us that there would be lay offs in January, but they haven't decided who, what departments, and exactly when they would happen. Happy holidays ... now be careful what you spend for gifts because you could be out of here in January!

They are downsizing and I think they want to do the same as your company. They want to keep those that are willing to do the job of several people and get rid of those that aren't willing to give their life up for the company. I am already doing the job of two people and have been for over a year (when they asked me to do it, it was supposed to be for a few months only and here I am a year later still doing that). The stress of overworking is too much some days and certainly not healthy by any stretch of the imagination.

2. At least they informed you there would be layoffs.
My co-workers had no warning at all. They were called into the boss' office individually and let go. Well, I'm still working, but for who knows how long if I can't handle the extra work.
