1. General Sherman should have finished the job in 1864-65
The South never loved America. They tore this country apart because they wanted to keep slavery (oh, excuse me, "states rights").

11. It was this time of year that he was marching to Savannah.
New book: "Southern Storm"...good book but big and heavy. My eyes glaze at the battel explanations but like it when the slaves come up to Sherman and are very happy. It makes my nearly cry with joy. Too bad it took another 100 years for the Civil Rights movement. I can recall in my history class (grew up in the south) where Carpetbaggers were made out to be the bad guys. But when they left, Jim Crow stepped in with a mighty fist. Any way, as Sherman was burning homes and such some of the Georigans came up to him and said they never wanted to go to war, but ole Sherman said something like...tough luck pal.

13. Don't you tar me
I just got here.

I don't see many of the northern power elite doing much for organized labor either.

I just moved to the south, and I noticed right away they were people just like the people I knew in the north and in the west and in the eastern parts of this country. Everywhere you go, corporatized politicians serve the corporations and political donors. People are either pissed off, propagandized, or just too weary to care.

I think making it a regional thing is taking away from what it really is, which is class war.

15. There's a lot of transplanted southerners in the
industrial midwest who came here to work in the factories. The lines between North and South are murky at best .People may hate the southern leadership down there, but I don't know too many who would actually blame southern people for this mess, that's a little to black and white. It's conservatives against sane people as far as I'm concerned.I wish the south didn't have so many conservatives and poor people who vote their fears instead of their wallets, but those people don't really have borders and exist everywhere, including Michigan.

educational system and a lot of fearful, poor people who are being duped by the powers that be and always have been, some still have a huge chip on their shoulder because of the civil war.I don't believe, however, that most Americans believe the chasm is so great that the south is unrecognizable to them. For better or sometimes worse, the south is part of America.

34. Well, we disagree. We have voters on our side in the south,
against us in the north. You can't make cartoon characters out of real people, all of us are much more nuanced than that. Ignorant people exist not because of their location, but because of their fear and inability to understand it in real terms and place the responsibility for their unhappiness where it belongs.Do you honestly live in an area of this country where no people you know exhibit these same characteristics we apply to southerners? We have people here in Michigan who would scab our factory jobs and this is a strong union state! If you asked those southern factory workers whether they would rather be UAW workers or "right to work" workers if they had a choice,do you think they'd take less pay and no protections out of spite. They live in an area of historically low paying jobs and $14.00 an hour with paid sick and vacation looks damned good to them. This isn't about geography, this is about corporations cynically going where people are desperate for what they can get.

26. As a southerner, I'm not offended.
Most southern states are misrepresented by wealthy elitists whose actions are most always on behalf of wealth protected at the expense of society. The problem is a political system that elects to office only those wealthy enough to run for office. If you really get down to it, it is a national footprint that isn't just southern. But, when you watch the classic Sen Shelby, Corker, Lott, etc, you sure have the personification of total loyalty to the royalists. They hate the masses.

I'm not even in the south, but I'm in a red state.

Honestly, I don't understand the theoretical basis for your argument that this is geographical. I'm open to being convinced, what what is the evidence?

To me, this appears to be just another assault by the rich who feel threatened by the middle class who are making an assertive stand for themselves.

Americans are not going to stand for losing what little representation (unions) and possessions they have left. I'm slow to anger, and I'm boiling, so that lets you know... there have to be millions of the same pov. Enough!

And yes, it's the South. These Senators are from specific places, not everywhere. And these Senators are repeatedly the ones refusing to protect Americans from the predators in any small way.
